Universal Film Group and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have secured the next project from Curry Barker, the filmmaker behind the hit horror title Obsession. The deal, reported as an eight-figure agreement, continues the partnership between the director and the studio following the massive success of his recent work.
Barker is set to write, produce, and direct the upcoming feature. This project marks his third collaboration with the studio, following Obsession and his second film, Anything But Ghosts. While Anything But Ghosts has already completed production and is slated for release through the Focus Features label, the new film is currently in early development.
A Growing Partnership
The new movie is described as an original horror concept. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the studio moved quickly to acquire the project after Barker pitched the idea to top executives. The production will also involve Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s Spooky Pictures, alongside Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath’s Divide/Conquer.
The momentum behind this deal is largely driven by the performance of Obsession. The film has become the highest-grossing release in the history of Focus Features and is currently on track to exceed $300 million at the global box office. This success solidifies Barker as a major creative force for the studio as they continue to expand their horror slate.
