Microsoft Disputes Reports of Low Xbox Pre-Orders for Grand Theft Auto VI

A spokesperson for the Microsoft Xbox division has officially refuted recent claims suggesting that pre-orders for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI are heavily favoring the PlayStation 5 over the Xbox Series X/S. Reports had previously circulated alleging an 8-to-1 sales disparity between the two platforms.

Clarifying the Data

The initial reports were based on affiliate link data shared by IGN. However, a Microsoft representative pushed back against these findings in a statement to Windows Central. The spokesperson emphasized that affiliate clicks do not provide an accurate reflection of total pre-order volume and encouraged the public to wait for official sales figures rather than relying on limited data sets.

Context for the Release

The conversation surrounding pre-order numbers follows a week of significant activity for the title. PlayStation recently updated its console dashboards and mobile application to highlight the start of pre-orders. Additionally, Rockstar Games has publicly stated that the game plays best on the PlayStation 5, further fueling industry speculation regarding platform performance.

Despite the ongoing discussion about platform-specific demand, analysts suggest that the decision to release the game without a physical disc version is unlikely to hinder overall sales performance. Fans can expect the title to arrive on November 19th.
