Conan helmer Nispel to ‘Backmask’ your father’s old record collection

There is no way to tell how the new Conan film will do, but director Marcus Nipsel has his next project lined up- ‘Backmask’ a horror movie that revolves around the interesting but mostly forgotten about urban legend phenom of the 70’s and 80s- well, Backmasking, of course. The nice folks over at
Horror Movies CA spin this record:

Backmask takes place during a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vinyl record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages.Well what do you know, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another.

The spirit isn’t all bad; it wants to warn the young folks from a flesh and bone threat among them. This sounds like an interesting premise- but it doesn’t quite hold up as a story. In recent years, folks have used current technology to either clean up the garbled messages of the past or seek out new garbled messages of current artists like Lady Gaga and Rhinanna. While some bands and artists did backmasking intentionally to tick off critics or give easter eggs for fans – such as The Beatles or Pink Floyd, there were only those few that were just intepetation and coincidence. Most bands and artists were unfairly targeted by these urban legends. I actually would find it more interesting if it was a band haunted by such ghosts after playing one of thier songs backwards. Or…what was that one movie from ’86, ‘Trick Or Treat’? Something like that?

Piss in the wind; I’m not that interested. Are you?
