  1. Funny that you mention that people use Audio Edition for learning English because I actually do so – you just have great joyful voices, show is damm entertaining and makes me feel like I’m actually practicing English every Monday. I’ll definitely support you guys on Bloggies this year.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. I’m a late poster sometimes, but I really wanted to say congratulations on 2 years of the Audio Edition!! It’s by far the best podcast I listen to, and I hear quite a few. I really hope the current group of people are able to create more enjoyable discussions for a long time to come. You guys are the best! And yes, I’ll be voting for you. Grats!!!

  3. You guys are the best. I listen to you every week now after one of my friends raved about you. Your Dark Water review still gives me a good laugh:)

They shouldn’t do Pirates 4 period.
I’m not too hyped for Spidey 3.
I think Casino Royale is gonna get owned by those penguins.

  4. 1)One of my favorite moments in the AE was when Doug decided to leave the AE, just as we thought he left Doug turns up for one last time and it’s Darren’s who makes it as he says ”DOUG!!” in a shocked voice. Or when Doug freak’s out, oh man they are good moments.

2)When will the voting being for the podcast of the year?

3)Good. Who honestly needs more Pirate Of the Carribean movies? They should just end it with Worlds End. Knightly is doing the right thing here, quit before its done to death.

4)Don’t fuck with the King, baby!!!

    5)Couldn’t agree more

6)I disagree. Looks good to me. Makes Sandman a more intresting character also adds too the story, will Peter kill Sandman for revenge?

7)I like the ”trailer”, but they should have told us it wasn’t a real trailer.

8)Because it looks boring, put some Transformers in it and I’m there :P

    9) NICE!!!

    10) R.I.P

    11) I get to see Casino Royale tonight. I’ve never seen a bond movie before. But the trailer looks fucking wicked.

12)SMG can be good, but shes gotta pick the right roles. She is being dragged into all these horror movies just because she was in Buffy, gets fucking annoying after awhile.

    13) No comment

    14) No comment

    15) No, thank you!!!

  5. he doesn’t say he has no idea he says …spider man says “you killed ben parker” and sandman “what does it matter to you?”
that is quite possibly the nerdiest thing I have ever written….anyway…..
I don’t think the mysterio thing is going to happen either…I get the feeling that they are going with that angle…sandman killed ben…seems a bit lame and forced but it opens up all sorts of shit i guess like the fact that peter parker killed someone for no reason in the first film…..

  6. Nord/Alfie:

The whole Bruce Campbell as Mysterio thing came up again via alleged internet “story”. But to be clear on the rumor: the concept revolves around an alleged scene in which there is a “Spider-Man” re-enactment/movie being filmed, with cameos by Sam Raimi, Avi Arad…and Bruce Campbell as an FX/makeup wizard named Quentin Beck. If it has merit, it’s only a wink to the fanbase, and means nothing except…well, an actor plays “Curt Connors” but there’s no Lizard yet; an actor played “John Jameson” but there is no Man-Wolf yet. In other words, possibilities could be set up for later films, but it won’t actually make it so. That said, I would not mind a brief opening where Spidey fights a villian like Rhino, Tartantula or Shocker.

As for the idea of Sandman killing, or had a hand in the killing of Ben, could it be something that Spidey, under the control of the symbiont, might be led to believe?
In the new trailer Marko says he has ‘no idea’ what Spider-Man is talking about.

  7. i don’t want to be a killjoy but the whole routh package thing was shot down by singer himself. he said it was rumour bronout of a little bit of truth. the crotch on supermans costume was hard plastic. it was like a guard box…it wasn’t just material with rouths cock flopping around……the digitally reduced rumour came from that fact that the initial design was considered to big and they made a smaller box for the costume. the rumour that they digitally reduced his package, i’m afraid, wasn’t true…..

had it have been true it might have gone a long way to help explain what they spent 200+ million on as the film sure as hell didn’t look like it cost that much….look at films like kong and pirates which spent similar amounts and you can see the money. I cannot for the life of me see where 200+ million went on superman.

  8. Good stuff as always guys… But the 200th show! will be the big celebration. And Doug doing every show? I think the post with him leaving to make fluffy cakes for his mother in law still is the most commentated one ever, right? Now all you need is to convince him doing three shows a week will lead to him becoming the next Seinfeld and all is good in the world. In the meantime I’ll be happy with once a week though. Keep it up.

  9. No-go for Babel? Home of “correct” movie opinions my ass.
It’s one of the best films of the year and WILL be nominated for bestpicture and probably win.

The story is so engrossing and wonderful to watch. As you said, acting is solid (Bernal, the Moroccon peasants are non-actors found at the scene days before shooting) and NO, Darren, it was not the same director who did “Crash.” It’s the same director who did “21 Grams” and “Amores Perros” – both amazing films.

I’m just upset, sorry. But this film is brilliant. One of the best of the year easy. Crazy bastards ;)

  10. 2. quick comments today (havent finished listening, a lengthier one tomorow)

    1. when i heard about the sandman being bens killer – i thought it was the guy fro the first film actually escaping from prision or something – which i thought would b a gd plot – no tht i heard this podcast i CANNOT believe how weak the plot is…seriously how STUPID is that

    2. Borat – i saw it>now i wont see i didnt like it – hell i loved it but because of the review (such as this one saying it could be the funniest movie ever made) i was actually unsatisfied when i left the cinema – i mean it was funny but the funniest movie ever NO FUCKING WAY! 7/10 tops – just my veiw ^^

  11. Sandman killing Ben weak? you have no idea, I bet you all still think the 4th Villan is going to Spider-Man himself don’t you?

    WRONG! (a la Lex Luthor)

Sandman killing Ben will all be explained when you find out who the 4th villan is.

    muhahahahahahaha

    Nord

  12. Just for the record The Matrix was considered a huge hit when it released….it was a complete sleeper….nobady expected it to be as big as it was but it was not like austin powers at all in only finding an audience on DVD. the film was huge.

oh and casino royale will definitely be the number one film this week. by a mile.

Happy Feet looks cute and all and will do fine but I don’t think children (and especially the parents who have to take them) will be clamoring for ANOTHER animated film about animals….casino royale will definitely take it…..

I would normally agree about the rotten tomatoes rating meaning nothing but in this case I think it does matter…..if the reviews had been awful I believe that would have incredibly damaging as a lot of people are already a bit skeptical…this is one film that needed to have great advance word of mouth. Bad reviews would have hurt it big time. I don’t think the good reviews will make it make more than any bond ever before but it won’t effect the usual good opening weekend for a bond since the word is that it is fucking great.

  13. The podcast was as always…delicious. I don’t have time to watch much tv shows. So the Audio Edition is basically the only show I watch/listen to, very entertaining.

    The reason I listen:

    Movie News – 60%
    Humor – 40%

News without humor gets boring. And humor without focus is boring. You provide a very fresh combination of both. Thank You.

The Audio Edition: “Always imitated, never replicated!”

  14. Great podcast, and again, congrats on the 2yr AE anniversary.

Now comes the thunder. Hold on to something.

    *******
Here’s a question I’m surprised John didn’t ask about “Flags Of Our Fathers” – how would this effect “Letters From Iwo Jima”, which tells the story from a Japanese perspective?

In addition, John also forgets that “Flags” didn’t cost 90 million. Eastwood shot “Flags” and “Letters” back to back. The 90 mil is the result of the combined pictures. Still, it is from a marketing perspective why the film failed. Oddly, before Spielberg did “Saving Private Ryan”, he *was* considering optioning the book on which “Flags” is based.

    *******

You are right about “Happy Feet” not being promoted enough. On the side of that, it was slightly influenced by “March Of The Penguins”. I think the idea was to ride the coattails, so to speak. You like Pengies? We’ll give you cute animated pengies!

While I’m looking forward to “Casino” a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes means shit.
Disagree? Fair enough. Now tell me who saw the family friendly ‘Lassie’ update last summer.

Still, I say Casino will take in between 50-60 mil first weekend.

  15. As one of those who was there from the beginning this podcast is easily my most anticipated media hit each week. And that includes movies, TV shows etc.

Two years… Wow, time sure does fly! Here’s hoping, somewhat selfishly, to many more years of Movie Blog podcasts. Kudos to everyone involved and to all the people discerning enough to be fans of the show.

  16. Congrats on two years of GREAT podcasting… It’s obvious that your confidence level has risen alot but the passion for movies is still as intact as it was the first time you recorded the Audio Edition.

Happy Feet versus Casino Royale? I have to stand by Happy Feet here, as I work with young children (280 of them) and the marketing was so brilliant for them that they are DYING to see it – the parents have already been begged and it’s Thanksgiving + the Harry Potter trailer.

I will be by myself predicting this film to beat Casino Royale over the week-end, and perhaps offer a nice “I told you so!” later on.

    Cheers!

  17. You guys are da shit! Although I’ve got to say I’m not really sure why you like that twit podcast so much. I listened to it a couple of times because I heard you talk about it, but I didn’t think it was anything special. If twit is the best the podcast world has to offer, then not only are you guys the best movie podcast on the fuckin internet, you’re the best podcast period. Cheers for another two years!

  18. Happy 2nd anniversary, fellas. “I like-a you. I like-a sex.” I hope something really funny comes out of this litigation from the frat boys in the Borat movie. What a bunch of assholes,eh?
John, dude, I mean, seriously, yeah I understand the whole Simpsons thing. But being a fan as I am, I’m really just happy to see new Simpsons anything. Argh! Who am I kidding?! I can’t pretend I’m not anrgy. They said “trailer” goddammn it! We were totally jipped! Stupid, lousy Fox with there big corporate thing-a-ma-giggy! They’ll get there comeuppance! Comeuppance!

Usually it takes seven minutes and fourty seconds to download the show. Yeah, of course I time how long it takes to download. What eles am I gonna do,read a book? This week it took seven minutes and fourty-one seconds. Tisk-tisk. I guess you really are having bandwidth issues. What’s up with that?

    Bloggie in ’07!

    – Cheers

  19. Excellent podcast guys, thanks. It was interesting to hear a snippet from your very first one.
My favourite moment ever in the history of your podcast was when you guys talked about Doug’s ex-girlfriend and the letter she wrote him a while after they broke up. That was priceless!
Although Borat is a huge success (no one can deny that fact), the distributor shot themselves in the foot when they cut it back to 800 screens on opening weekend. Sure, it did 7% more business in its 2nd week, BUT it was in 300% more screens. That first weekend was an oppurtunity to make well over $50 million.
I disagree with people not seeing A Good Year becasue of Russell’s antics (though they are tiresome). I think it had to do with the marketing. The trailer sucked. It made the movie look like a family oriented made-for-tv movie. I have yet to see it, so maybe it’s a good film, I don’t know. But judging from the trailer, it’s not a film I care to pay money to see.
I agree that Sarah Michelle Gellar has made some horrible career choices in film, and at this rate, she’s going to be doing a Buffy TV movie eventually. What’s odd though, is that the first big film she did (which was while she was on Buffy) showed such promise. I’m talking about Cruel Intentions. I was so impressed with her in that movie because the character she portrayed was completely different from her Buffy persona. At that time I seriously thought that she would have a huge career in film, if only because she’s willing to do things which were completely different from Buffy. I still have hope (though fleeting) that she’ll turn it around.

  20. just on borat vs the new releases:

    1.Will Ferrell is overated.
2.Brad Pitt is what Campea refers to as a servicable acter. he has yet to turn in a breathtaking performance.
3.Nobody wants to see Ridley scott do fluffy chick flicks. same goes for Crowe.
4.the Chris Bale movie didnt get decent promotion.
    & most of all:
People just want to mindlessly laugh their asses off.

  21. Guys, you rock. Keep up the good work, and keep giving me something to stay awake for during my bus rides to work and school. I’m happy to call myself a fan of you guys. And Doug, I wouldn’t trust you with my children either, seriously.

Jeff- dunno about you, but I’ve been downloading the episodes around five minutes a pop. It may have just been the stress on the server.

  22. CONGRATS GUYS!!! the funniest shit i ever heard on The Movie Blog Podcast was Douglas Nagy saying he would beat of off twice if they released a Transformers trailer featuring Optimus Prime throwing Megatron thru a building. funnyass shit!

  23. They never said Borat was the only movie to go up in it’s second week. They said they can’t remember the last time it happened.

Great show guys! All four of you are fantastic and bring a nice mix to the show. Here’s to another 2 years!

  24. Wow, don’t want to be a black cloud, but it really sucks when you go to listen to your favorite damn podcast, and the ODEO player times out and doesnt load the show, and the manual download takes over an hour and a half. Talk about having bandwidth issues, and I know that they’re not mine. Whats up with that?
