Today on the Audio Edition Doug and I discuss the status of the Simpsons Movie, Gary Oldman finally getting signed up for the next Harry Potter film, the Woverine Prequel, Daniel Craig getting signed up for a 2nd Bond film, Shrek the Third, the Matrix brothers doing the new Conan movie and a few things more.

    R? … I can’t speak for Doug, but I was thinking NC-17 or unrated I want to see swords cleaving through skulls right to the teeth like in Howards tales.

    What‚Äôs the point in a “Barbarian” movie if nothing Barbaric happens?

    scantily clad maidens, humongous swords, brutal slayings and gore are what is needed for this movie!

    … back to directors what about Don Coscarelli, after all he is responsible for Sword and sorcery classic “The Beastmaster” or even Predator director John McTiernan who did The 13th Warrior, which although not a great movie did have some great barbarian style action

  14. Joss Whedon would be terrible in my opinion, I would like to see a the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Álex de la Iglesia or Darren Aronofsky directors capable of really creating dark violent fantasy.

    Might even be good to see Tsui Hark, as he has directed some great fantasy and sword play movies, I don’t know how many of you have seen “The Blade”, but it’s hands down the best swordplay movie of all time.

    I would like to see it closer to the first movie or even to Robert E. Howards original works if possible, be sad to see it watered down and PG-13.

  15. Ok how they will do Wolverines origin story is a puzzle to me. They moreless introduced the main characters from Logan’s past in the X-films already. If they based it on the original origin it would be told like this. Wolverine’s early life has been revealed gradually over time. The story of Wolverine’s childhood was told in the limited series Origin. He was born James Howlett, the son of wealthy Canadians John and Elizabeth Howlett in 19th century Alberta. He was a sickly youth, therefore his father hired a girl named Rose to take care of him. They were joined by a third youth, Dog Logan, who would later become James’ bitter enemy.
    Elizabeth’s first son was believed to have been born with the same claws as her second son James, but he died in an unspecified tragedy prior to the story’s beginning. This traumatic experience caused Elizabeth to go insane and be committed to an asylum for some time. It is revealed that she had an affair with the groundskeeper of the Howlett estate, Thomas Logan, a man who looks exactly like the adult Wolverine. Years passed and she eventually gave birth to James Howlett.

    Thomas Logan’s son, Dog, would later attack Rose, leading John Howlett to reprimand Thomas Logan. After Dog murdered James’s puppy Callie, Thomas was dismissed from the estate, but the father and son broke into the Howlett estate to abduct Thomas’ beloved Elizabeth. Here Thomas Logan killed John Howlett. James’ mutant powers, particularly his claws, emerged when he discovered his dead father and the murderer. With his new powers, James killed Thomas Logan and scarred Dog. Elizabeth chose to commit suicide, having lost her husband and lover and discovering her second son was also a mutant.

    James’s grandfather blamed him for these events and sent James and Rose into exile. They made their way to a British Columbia mining colony, where James grew into a strong and ferocious worker. He also adopted the name Logan (originally given to him by Rose in an attempt to hide James’ true identity) and acquired the nickname of Wolverine.

    Three years later Dog, who by now strongly resembled the adult Wolverine’s adversary Sabretooth, tracked him down. Forced to remember his painful childhood, Logan fought Dog savagely. Logan had gained the upper hand in the fight but as Rose attempted to prevent the killing of Dog, she was impaled by Logan’s claws. Wracked with grief over the death of his true love, Logan spent more time in the woods with wolves where he felt more at home.

    So that origin is basically out the window because of Sabertooth’s appreance in the X1. But like ‘antoino’ said Wolverine lost his memory in the comics, they could apply that for Sabertooth aswell. Just a thought how they could work around it.

  17. Yea thats all we need, Joss Whedon directing a Conan movie. I think you guys need to brush up on your movie knowledge, learn a few more directors’ names or something cause that is embarassing

  19. For the first time ever, I’m having trouble downloading the show through iTunes. Is anyone else having problems? I’ve tried three times and it always stop about 1/3 of the way through downloading. I’m pretty sure it’s not on my end as all other podcasts I subscribe too download just fine. Any ideas?

  20. CONAN: I see your point with Joss Whedon but he’d probably try making it all funny and full of flippant remarks and it’d turn out all shitty like Conan The Destroyer. In Barbarian Arnie is scary as Hell, in Destroyer he comes across like a total moron.

    Can you imagine a Conan movie directed by someone like Terry Gilliam? He might struggle with the action but he’d go fucking bonkers with all the creatures. The first one had the bad guy turn into a giant snake. Terry Gilliam could knock that shit out of the park. Alternatively, John Woo could do it. Have you seen his IMDB listing lately? TWO fucking computer game movies in a row and then the He-Man movie, which is basically Conan-for-kids anyway. What the hell happened to this guy?

    I reckon the best man for the job, though he’d never do it in a million years, is James Cameron. That’d be fun.

  21. I was going to comment on the Oliver Stone thing but that’s been noted. I don’t think Stone will be a good helmer for Conan, although I hope that anything he does erases the hinderance of that silly ‘Alexander’.

    So that leaves:

    Doug Nagy: The director of the Mad Max films was George Miller. He also was going to helm the fourth Max film afew years ago until the plug got pulled due to production problems. Miller, of course, has a wide range of films, from Witches Of Eastwick to Babe.

    Now if Arnold is defeated as G’vr, wouldn’t he go do a Terminator 4 or that Sly Stallone team up project before Conan?

    If the Warschowskis didn’t direct Conan–I’d give it to thier buddy right now- James McTigue (sp?) I think the guy’s name is. He just came off V For Vendetta. While I may not have loved that film to death, a lot of people did. It’s a hit film, I cannot deny that.
    He might need a follow up.

  22. If I remember correctly logan (wolverine) lost his memory in the comics so he could in deed run into chracters in the prequel he has met in the other films. I remember a comic where wolverine and saber tooth were both fighting together during world war 2 and wolverine knew lady death strike years before in japan.
