  1. Well, the success of Kill Bill is relative. Elektra barely made it’s money back worldwide, and Catwoman lost about $20M worldwide, whereas the Kill Bill movies cost about $60M total, while bringing in $330M worldwide. That’s a better cost-to-profit ratio than Spiderman 2, and almost as good as the first Spiderman movie.

That’s a success in my book.

  2. Oh, and rebel against movie theatres. Before going, go to your nearest gas station, grab your candy bars and lemon drops, even a small bottled water , which you can hide on an inside coat pocket.

Yes, I know you’re ‘not supposed to do that’, but they know people do it a lot, and nobody gets tossed out over a Snickers.

  3. Al.x is dead on. For as much as I loved the Alan Parsons Project, they really did bungle up on 1985’s Ladyhawke, other than Warner’s marketing department at the time, and miscasting Matthew Broderick.

But the only ‘replacement’ soundtrack I known of in the past concerns another fantasy fiilm, Ridley Scott’s “Legend”. Tangerine Dream’s score I liked (and in the 80’s they were the movie score syth kings of the good and the bad) but it really didn’t fit the movie as much as the replaced (then restored) James Horner score.

Hey, I’d like John to consider this interesting little bit:

Regarding Walter Hill’s take on the re-issued Warriors DVD. Looks like Spielberg isn’t the only director who isn’t an audio commentary fan.

  4. Another thing to keep in mind about Kill Bill is that neither film made tons of money.

A Legit “HIT” movie makes at least $100 million. Put together the two Kill Bill films took in about $135 Million. Not bad at all… but hardly a huge success.

  5. As far the Bride from Kill Bill is concerned, I attribute Kill Bill’s success to QT. That movie was guaranteed success simply because it was a Tarantino movie. I agree that the Bride kicked large portions of ass but I wouldn’t say that Uma or the female hero character carried that/those film(s) to success. However this would probably be the closest anyone has come to an exception to my “theory”. Another I would point out would be Alien(s) but Sigorney Weaver takes a backseat to the Aliens everytime.

  6. Even though they are not really classified as ‘superhero’s’, female leads seem to have better luck on TV with such shows as Buffy, Alias and Dark Angel.

  7. I just had a thought on what was said as far as movies with a female superhero lead. Submitted for your approval, The Bride from Kill Bill. While not a traditional ‘superhero’, neither is Elektra or Catwoman for that matter. To my knowledge, none of them have any ‘super powers’ (although I never say Electra or Catwoman because they looked like complete garbage), but I think The Bride is just as much a superhero as either of these two, and obviously Kill Bill did not suck, as was a box office succes too.

So there’s been at least one.

  8. Another good ‘cast guys. BTW if you are the big fans of the LOTR soundtracks that you seem to be, you should know that the COMPLETE soundtracks for all 3 films are going to be released.

Up first is FOTR available on Dec 13th. Here is a link – http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6989437&style=music&cart=279056259&BAB=E

Each set will be 3 CDs and though this listing does not show one disc will include the soundtrack in 5.1 format!

    AWE………..SOME!

  9. A good example of how a score can change a film is Ridley Scott’s Legend. On the dvd release, you get two versions of the film. The first is the North American theatrical release with the synth driven score by Tangerine Dream. The second version is the director’s cut featuring the original orchestral score by Jerry Goldsmith. Needless to say, the Goldsmith score works way better with the film.

  10. Also, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the Batman Begins soundtrack. It’s for sure one of the better scores to come out in recent memory. And, the one thing I hate the most about going to movies is when you go into a movie with some pretty good (but not necessarily high) expectations and the movie is absolutely horrible after the first 10 minutes (Transporter 2 anyone?). That’s my number one beef with going to the movies. But at least it’s still pretty easy to sneak in a flask of Crown and maybe do a little drinking game.

  11. One f**king thing I hate when I go see comedic movies, is that there is always one person who laughs like carzy for every single one liner in the movie, every joke, even when there is nothing to laugh about they just burst out laughing. That annoys me like pile of dog shit that lies in your home, but u cant pick up because you dont want to get you hands dirty. Especially when they laugh before the joke is said and I didn’t even get a chance to hear the f**king joke. Anyway that is one thing that drives me CRAZY…..yep

–By they way I took your guys advice and saw SERENITY about 2 weeks ago and I have too say I love this movie. Let me just say that I love it so much that I went and bought the Season 1 of FIREFLY that day itself.

–There has been a rumor on some sites that say the USA Sci Fi network might take up on the FIREFLY Season 2…..this would be an awsome move by Sci Fi. Do you guys know if this is true?

–Also I heard in July that RUSH HOUR 3 was in the process of being made. Apparently now there was some problem with Chris Tucker and I have heard no news about it. Anyone knows whats going on?

–One more thing I heard was that in a interveiw with Sean Bean, he said that there might be a NATIONAL TREASURE 2. Also in a recent interview with Nicholas Cage, he metioned a possible sequal. Any one have any ideas?

By the way great show….keep up the good work my fellow Canadians!
