Iron Man losing Nick Cassavetes?

IronMan.jpgScreen Rant have come up with a worrying post when they say that Iron Man may have taken a few steps back in the development process. It looks like they may have lost their Director, Nick Cassavetes.

It’s not confirmed, but IGN.com (which usually has very solid inside sources) reports that Nick Cassavetes may have dropped out as director of the much anticipated (by me) Iron Man movie. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the guys who currently write Smallville and wrote the screenplay for Iron Man are apparently under the same impression according to SuperHeroHype.com.

This will be a huge blow to the movie if it is the case, not only because it’s the Director, but because of who he is. I, like Vic, am eagerly awaiting this one. I think it has the promise to be as gritty and real as the proper Batman. If he has gone, who else could take over this project?

  1. I have been waiting for an Iron Man movie for 15 years, but I greet the news of Cassavetes falling out as a good thing. Perhaps Cruise will become interested again if the studio goes to him and says, “Okay, you said the project wasn’t looking like anything special. With Nick gone, how would YOU make it special?” Based on Cassavetes’ terrible movies, I had zero confidence in him … Iron Man fan or not.

  2. Vic, I think it bodes ill for the project. Perhaps Cruise will pick it up since he didn’t want to act but was interested in the character?

Actually to be realistic. I think if they don’t find someone soon the project will fall. Iron Man isn’t exactly mainstream of the comic world, and won’t seem such hot property to the Studio’s as Spiderman, Batman, et al.
