Lego and Mario Officially Teaming Up for New Releases in 2027

Fans of both Nintendo and The Lego Group have long awaited a specific evolution in their collaborative toy line. After years of interactive, blocky figures, the companies have confirmed that Lego and Mario Officially Teaming Up for New Releases in 2027 will finally bring traditional Super Mario minifigures to the market. This announcement marks a significant shift for the partnership, moving away from the interactive, squat designs that have defined the series since its inception six years ago.

The upcoming line was teased earlier this year, featuring a glimpse of Mario emerging from a classic Warp Pipe. While the design retains some unique characteristics, such as a specialized head piece rather than the standard cylindrical Lego cranium, the form factor is much closer to the iconic minifigures collectors expect. This development represents uncharted territory for the toy maker, which has previously focused on brick-built characters and interactive electronic figures for the franchise.

Expanding the World of Lego Super Mario

The transition to minifigure-scale characters opens up significant creative possibilities for builders. While the current roster of Lego Super Mario sets has successfully utilized blocky, interactive versions of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach, the introduction of minifigures allows for more traditional play patterns. According to reports from the Bricktap Discord server, the initial wave may include a minifigure of Luigi, a larger BigFig version of Bowser, and a Yoshi figure designed with a removable shell to accommodate riders.

This move follows a successful track record of Lego adapting other Nintendo properties into the minifigure format, including characters from Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. By bringing Mario and his friends into this established style, the companies are likely looking to bridge the gap between their interactive sets and the classic Lego building experience that fans have requested for years.

A Busy Era for Nintendo and Lego

The announcement of these 2027 releases comes during a particularly active period for the two companies. Throughout 2026, the partnership has produced a variety of high-profile sets, including a Lego Donkey Kong arcade machine and a detailed recreation of the final battle from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Additionally, the Mario Kart line has continued to expand with sets like the Luigi and Mach 8 vehicle.

Beyond the Mario universe, the collaboration has seen significant growth in other areas, most notably with the release of over 20 Lego Pokémon sets in 2026. As the partnership continues to evolve, the shift toward minifigures for their flagship gaming franchise suggests a long-term commitment to diversifying how fans interact with these iconic characters. For collectors, the 2027 launch date provides plenty of time to prepare for what promises to be a major expansion of the Lego Super Mario universe.
