Diddy is in it because he IS a record exec and he is playing one. He isn’t an “actor” in this since he is really just being himself.

Jonah isn’t playing a waiter turned Exec, he is playing an intern. In Sarah Marshall, Hill is trying to push his demo on Snow, and has big dreams of being a star one day. Clearly they are writing in some sort of career path for the waiter/wannabe star.

As far as Jonah Hill’s character it is a bit of a stretch to see him from waiter to record executive, but whatever. I still don’t know why Diddy is in this movie though. He’s really not a good actor at all. Hopefully it will just be a cameo.
