  1. Hello Richard.

First of all I’d like to say that I love The Movie Blog and I visit every day. The Audio Edition is my favourite podcast, maybe second to TWiT. I hope that my suggestions doesn’t come thorgh as critique.

I should’ve been more precise about what was aimed to the site and what was aimed to the A.E.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Movie reviews – I’d like to hear them regularly on the A.E.

    • News and roumors РThat is what the Movie Blog is all about of course, but a couple more editors would be nice to take the load of John who is doing a daily A.E.

    • Lists РCould be a follow up to the polls as well? These are by the way probably more suited for the site.

    • Interviews with people in the movie industry РAlso on the A.E.

    • DVD news and reviews (with easter eggs?) РNews and reviews on the A.E. and easter eggs on the site (so you can print it out).

    • Retro reviews of older (cult) classics and overlooked films РBoth on site and A.E.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Maybe touch more on some of the great TV-shows like Battlestar Galactica – I understand, but you can’t blame me for trying. ;)

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Keep an eye out and report when production video diaries are updated. – Like http://www.bluetights.net/bulletin_list.php They are posted irregularly and I’m not sure everyone knows they exist.

To summarize: Some people might not have time to sit down and read through the news, roumors, interviews and reviews, and prefer listening to it on the A.E. on their way to work.

    Cheers!

    /Al.x

  2. improvements:

    – change the pepsi ads to be a little less intrusive (especially for Mac users for some reason)

    – why do you guys limit yourselves to 30 minutes? Screw that. If there’s stuff to talk about, go on for an hour if you want to.

    – this is a weird one. sometimes I want to highlight and plagiarize tidbits of text – for emails or whatever. For some reason I can’t highlite things to copy and paste….grrr.

    – minor nitpicking cuz Im a movie snob: although you guys know a lot about movies, sometimes you give some wrong info or you can’t think of a movie title or something. i.e. “What’s the name of that movie with so-and-so?” “oh…what is it?” “I think his name was devon or maven or something.” “Oh…oh…this is killing me.” etc etc. Just have info ready or something. This drives me crazy…again, only because I’m a movie snob.

Otherwise, love the site and audio editions. I check it everyday and contribute often. Keep it up!

  3. Hey Al.x. Here’s some comments back, from the non-AE side.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Surveys/polls – Looks like we’re in hand with this.

    • Movie reviews РErrmm, not checked out the Reviews page? Check the sidebar navigation at the top, or the navigation bar that appears below posts.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ News and roumors – We do that day to day, or try to. Can you be more specific if we’re not covering something?

    • Lists РYeah! Working on that right now too.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Interviews with people in the movie industry – That will come, don’t you worry.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ DVD news and reviews (with easter eggs?) – Yeah, I do loads on my own site, we’re looking into this here.

    • Retro reviews of older (cult) classics and overlooked films РAs above.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Maybe touch more on some of the great TV-shows like Battlestar Galactica – Might do where there’s a movie crossover or a DVD release, but until we start a TV site I doubt we’ll go further.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Hardware and technology – Blu Ray vs. HD-DVD, home cinema stuff? – Looking into this too, and I try to do some here and there. I’m investigating HDTV just now, so expect some posts coming.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Keep an eye out and report when production video diaries are updated. – Just production video diaries? From which sites? There are hundreds of blogs from actual movies, and I’ve posted some before from smaller productions which were totally overlooked. Might look into this one.

  4. Nothing wrongs with the ads but they DO cover some text occasionally. Not often, but sometimes. I’ll try and take screenshot naxt time that happens. I’m using Mozilla Firefox 1.07.

  5. Also, I would like to see a Top 5 movies at the Box Office and what they have earned type thing as well.

And possibly a short list of movies being released that week.

  6. John-

I’m going to attempt to put up a screen shot of this google ad thing I’m talking about…

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/eanetdude/googleads.jpg (copy and paste into your browser)

I fully understand the need for ads on this site. I don’t want you to have to dish out your entire paycheck just for one website. Ads are perfectly alright. However, when it presents a problem such as this, it needs to be taken care of.

If you can somehow get the google ads to appear on the side bars and not in the actual movie news posts, that would be wonderful.

I really appreciate all the work you, Richard, Dough, Conks and the others who make this community possible. I really love listening to the Audio Edition. When I’m on my death bed, I want a pair of headphones on my head soothing me with the glorious sounds of John and Doug. Conks is alright too.

  7. Hey there Elliot

I’ve never seen the google ads cover any of the text before… this is the first time I’ve heard someone mention it.

Is anyone else having that problem with the google ads? If so… let me know and I’ll see what the problem is.

Sorry mate… the ads are there to stay… they’re the only thing that pays the bills and keeps The Movie Blog from becoming a paid subscription site.

  8. Get rid of the Google ads. They cover some of the text of the newest news post on the home page.

It’s like “Narnia makes GOOGE AD, BUY THIS, CLICK ON THIS, at the box office, a huge success for director GOOGLE AD!”

  9. Must admit that this is the first audio edition i have listened to. And only because richard told me i had been mentioned. Yes, i too like having my ego massaged.

I also assumed it would be a couple of blokes talking crap for half an hour. And well, i was right, but what i didn’t realise is that its quite entertaining. Can’t say that i agree with previous posters asking for more detailed info on movies though, there are loads of posts for that sort of thing.

    Improve the site:

Not much required here really. Actually i can’t think of anything.

And as its been mentioned i only get one good idea every few months and i had it yesterday.

  10. Some of theese has already been mentioned:

    • Surveys/polls

    • Movie reviews

    • News and roumors

    • Lists

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Followups on earlier audio editions – I don’t have the time to read through all the comments posted so it’d be nice if you quoted and responded to the best ones on the A.E.

√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Don’t pay any attention to Jack (who ever he is)

    • Interviews with people in the movie industry

    • DVD news and reviews (with easter eggs?)

    • Monthly plug for http://www.originaltrilogy.com/ ;)

    √¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Don’t feel limited to 30 minutes.

    • Give us the A.E. monday through friday

    • Retro reviews of older (cult) classics and overlooked films

    • Talk about movie scores (team up with http://www.scorereviews.com/ maybe?)

    • Maybe touch more on some of the great TV-shows like Battlestar Galactica

    • Hardware and technology РBlu Ray vs. HD-DVD, home cinema stuff?

    • Keep an eye out and report when production video diaries are updated.

    Just my two cents.

    /Al.x

  11. OK, I just installed the new firefox beta and it moved the rss tab from the bottom right corner to the browser bar.

OK heres one thing how about some links to some new trailers and maybe a small description or review of it. I like the King Kong title bar btw.

  12. i agree with brian except that ‘the audio edition is great’ part. It’s more mediocre than great.

One of the things i complained about was the lack of film commentary and discussion. You mostly talked about stupid shit like the top 10 MILFs in hollywood, box office data, film gossip and anything else but films themselves.

And you mostly avoid even doing any reviewing. for example, the Harry Potter episode, you quickly said Walk The Line is over-hyped, and look for your written review, so then you spent the rest of the 10 minutes talking about Chris Tucker getting overpayed. You could’ve spent much less time on Chris Tucker and reviewed Walk The Line.

But ultimately ,guys, the audio or video format isn’t a place to look for film criticism. you really need to look at written reviews for that.

Another thing you guys have to realize about John and Doug are that they are more like casual film goers not film fanatics.

  13. I think the audio edition is great even when the topics suck. So there.

Yeah, polls would be cool. I’d also like to see more movie reviews. The news you post now is great, but reviews would be a) more immediately useful, and b) easier to comment on. There’s really not much one can say about a film coming out three months from now beyond “I’m looking forward to it” or “That’s gonna suck”.

Movie review audio editions would be excellent.

  14. no one has been completely honest to you.

I hope that if i continually criticize your show then you will change it for the better.

I just can’t believe that I’m the only person who thinks the same as me. Do you agree with me, John? just wondering.. be honest!

I feel there’s too much overall dead air in the shows, too many umms and ahhs.

  15. Wow Jack… you sure listen to the show an awful lot for a guy who doesn’t like it.

If you really dislike it all that much… then here’s a crazy idea… don’t listen.

The show is not going to meet everyones tastes. Right now the show is downloaded over 100,000 times a month, a lot of people love it… some don’t… neither has better taste than the other… it’s just different strokes…

So if you really don’t like the show… stop listening and save my bandwidth bill.

  16. am i being hostile?

i was just trying to help the show out. I think the show has never been that interesting even when they were doing 1 show per week, and 5 shows a week hasn’t improved or unimproved it for me. It’s just more of the same thing. My opinion is that even if they did 3 shows per week the shows wouldn’t improve. JUst look at that show they did after a 2 week hiatus, and compare it with any other.

  17. Yeah! I bet Pablo doesn’t know he’s had a mention on the Audio Edition – yes Pablo, that’s you!…That’s the first decent idea he’s had for months though.

John – I have some free survey software ready to try out.

  18. It’s not the topics that are uninteresting. It’s the hosts themselves. Some people just aren’t that interesting, or don’t have much to say. If doing a half hour show everyday is tough, think about AM talk radio where it’s usually just 1 guy that needs to fill hours every single day.

and need i remind u how i feel about doug, another thing dragging this pony show?

  19. In a way I’m sad that there will be “only” 3 audio editions / week, but in the other hand, I have noticed same thing as you guys. Some of the audio editions, let’s say from 50 to 70 haven’t been so great, mostly because lack of decent topics. It’s just boring fact that show is mostly as good as it’s topics are.

I’m pretty sure that Doug can throw joke about everything and John can be very beliavable saying that he was first human being at world. But good topics are also true extra.

Two little questions and / or suggestions:

    1) where did video editions go? I liked ’em

    2) movie review -audio editions were great and I really miss em.

  20. Well I haven’t heard the audio edition, but I do visit the site regularly and do a little bit of commenting, (this is called sarcasm by the way) so you might be interested in some of my suggestions.

I think surveys\polls would be good. Not only one big one to find out what the readers all think about everything from the layout to the type of writing, but smaller ones. For instance I think we should start now with the Movie Blog Oscars, getting nominations and then issuing them for the final voting.

We should also vote on the Oscar nominations when they finally come. Then we could start our own top lists (which I’m working on the TopLists page already) – subjective or not, they are fun.

  21. Movie studios should sue away, sue as much as possible, put a few of those illegal downloaders into jail or give them a huge fine. That’ll stop those pirates. Laws are being broken, and law breakers should be punished.

  22. More Audio Edition please! You guys brighten my day whenever I listen to it.

Regarding the downloading movies based on your ticket reference, I’m not sure how this would work in foreign countries, perhaps a coupon or something that would allow me to download that movie or a movie of my choice for a fee. That would be cool.

If you’re going to be making changes, I suggest having polls on movie issues of day. I love your opinions on various movie lists so perhaps coming out with your own lists would be great.

  23. So today is November 23, 2003??? Three times a week sound good to me. The MPAA has something goin with this idea. I like the site the way it is now and its always up to date and has stories I don’ usually find other places. I like the Box office results idea you had abd the poll would be a good idea to do.

  24. Campea, you nutjob! it’s 2005 mate, 2003 is well gone.

keep up the good work on the audio edition though mate. I’m in australia and i listen to the most recent episode every morning at work.

    cheers buddy!

PS. Check an Australian actor called Peter O’Brian … I think he’s an excellent choice for the Joker in Batman. (if you like the choice, you gotta gimme some credit during airtime haha)
