The tribe has spoken and it is heading to the big screen. Paramount Animation is currently in development on an animated Survivor movie, bringing the high-stakes competition of the reality series to the animal kingdom.
Long-time host and executive producer Jeff Probst is attached to executive produce the project. According to the official synopsis, the film is set on a remote and mystical island where animals from across the globe compete for the chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.
Bringing the Reality Format to Animation
Probst shared his enthusiasm for the project on social media, noting that the animated format offers a new playground for the franchise. He emphasized that the film will retain the core elements fans love about the reality show, including big personalities, surprising alliances, competition, and chaos, but with a comedic twist featuring animal players.
This project marks a significant expansion for the Survivor brand, which debuted in 2000 and recently concluded its 50th season. The move to animation follows a trend of studios adapting popular unscripted formats into family-friendly feature films.
Paramount Animation Slate
The development of the Survivor movie falls under the leadership of Jennifer Dodge, who was appointed president of Paramount Animation last year. The division has been active in building its upcoming slate, which also includes the Christmas film The Naughty List from director Robert Rodriguez and the upcoming PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, scheduled for release on August 14.
While the reality series continues to be a ratings powerhouse for CBS, this animated adaptation aims to introduce the competitive spirit of the island to a new audience through a comedic lens.
