The hype delivers with this perfect start to the hotly anticipated summer movie season of 2012. Why did I ever doubt Joss Whedon’s ability to flawlessly direct a big budget super hero flick? (Well, he technically has no experience.) His “Buffy, The Vampire Slayer” might have been the most underappreciated TV series from the 1990’s. Joss Whedon adds the spark and the snark familiar with the show to the well-done comic adaptation. Now, I couldn’t imagine anyone else not directing and co-writing “The Avengers.”

Many aspects of ‘The Avengers’ re-sets the bar for comic book adaptations including the stunning action sequences, the witty banter, tongue in cheek references. However, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk was the highlight of the film as the best character and performance. Whether jumping on fighter jets or providing comic relief at a key moment, Ruffalo holds his own as the new face in a crowded field of familiar characters. No wonder Ruffalo signed a multiple picture deal with Marvel. I look forward to see what he accomplishes with the series the most.

Rating 8.5 out of 10.

  1. I agree 100% to score you gave. Even though I wish I could love this movie more, it doesn't take away the fact that it is a fantastic film and is easily one of the greatest comic book movies. And the whole reasoning for Jeremy Renner's performance is probably because the film didn't really give him much to do, therefore making him seem a little bland as a stand alone character.

  2. I loved this movie!! I also am a huge fan of indie films so I’m really looking forward to Parker Posey’s new movie, The Love Guide, coming out on DVD on June 19th! Check out the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwSkHKK2EjA

  3. Now on to what I thought! First off the movie was fantastic and completely up to par for what you would expect from the Team over at Marvel! The movie grips you from the first moment as it is a tie in to all of the Previous movies that Marvel has released. So from the first point we are thrown right back into the action! This really sets the stage as we work our way through the movie effortlessly. You don’t even realize how long you have been sitting there until you feel this burning pain in your gut and you realize you have finished your soda and almost all your popcorn and its time for a potty break! But you can’t get up during a Marvel Movie!!!! So, I guess you don’t…. Read my whole Review at http://guidegamers.com/the-avengers/
