As one of the most anticipated films of 2012, it’s no surprise that Lionsgate quickly pounced on the sequel, CATCHING FIRE. Due to release on November 22, 2013, the sequel has finally locked a director and writer. Gary Ross will return to helm the project with Simon Beaufoy (127 HOURS, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) writing the script.

This is great news for everyone looking forward to this series. I think it’s a slightly odd that they’ve switched writers between films but I’m optimistic about the whole thing. Collins originally adapted the screenplay for the first film herself, but then it was polished by Billy Ray (State of Play, Volcano). Maybe they want to just streamline the process?

THE HUNGER GAMES will be out until March 23, 2012
