I’m sure its a matter the characters that are left out are left out because it would take too much sceen time to develop them in accordance to the lore but I think a lot of purists will strongly disagree with that reasoning.

Personally I’m a bit worried that her addition will come off more as throwing in a “hot chick” (nice eye candy but an ultimately boring and almost patronizing reason) than trying to add more female characters (a very noble reason that could run the risk of backfiring).

I dont know why purist would be upset however, I am sure there will be a lot of filler characters running around. Now I would be upset if they injected a few extra dwarves during the quest so that Tom Cruise or some crap could be in the movie.
