Just did a bit of research.

Lucas gets story credit.

Screenplay was written by John Ridley, who is a television hack. Furthermore, the screenplay is notorious because it was the ONLY feature screenplay written and sold during the writer’s strike.

I suspect the film has been sitting on the shelf because Lucas wants to distance the film from the strike scandal. This fact means there is ZERO chance that the movie will be recognized by the Academy, regardless of it’s qualities.

January release, huh? That means it either has Oscar ambitions (if it’s opening in LA and NYC in December), or its a write-off.

January through April are known as the months where new movies go to die and where Oscar contenders get wide releases.

They key thing to me is, did Lucas writes the script? If so, it will probably not be very good. If he just laid out the storyline and let someone else flesh it out and more importantly, handle the dialogue, then the film has hope…

Bryan Cranston is one of the most talented actors out there. If he has a big role in it, that means I’m automatically interested. Breaking Bad is one of the best things that’s ever happened to TV, and Malcolm in the Middle was pretty good in its own right.
