RUMOR: More Toy Story

Tom Hanks is out and about promoting his latest film with Julia Robers “Larry Crowne”. Good for him. Tom Hanks says that Pixar is working on making a 4th Toy Story movie. Good for US.

He said that he thinks it’s happening and when pressed further said they’re working on it currently. Interesting, but not exactly surprising. With Cars 2 out this past weekend, a sequel to Monsters Inc in the works and some whispers about a sequel to The Incredibles, Pixar isn’t shying away from sequels.

Toy Story 3 had a lot of finality to the movie with a lot of themes and ideas being wrapped up in the last entry. I’m not jonesing for another Toy Story film, but I’m not opposed to the idea either. I expected to mostly see the characters appear from time to time in shorts and maybe the occasional holiday special, but I still have a lot of faith in Pixar and they may have an idea to re-energize these toys and help me change my tune about the movie into full out ‘radar’ status. Hopefully we’ll have more on this soon-ish.

  1. I’m sure if Pixar did do it it wouldn’t be anywhere near bad, but even so it would be a shame as Toy Story 3 was such a perfect ending. A sequel to The Incredibles could be fun though.

  2. I’m great to hearing that Tom Hanks says that Pixar is working on making a 4th Toy Story movie. That is good for Toy Story fan (me too :))

  3. I have too much respect for Pixar to believe they won’t put some effort into it, but I have my doubts that there’s really anything left for this series. So the only thing I can think of is a reboot; new toys, new stories to bring in the newer generations. Sorry, but my Toy Story ended with #3.

  4. Pixar is losing some of it’s “shine” for me recently. With the exception of “Brave” they have no new idea movies on the horizon and with the rumor that the remainder of their movies for the next few years will be sequels or prequels I’m disappointed to say the least. I completely agree with Anthony on letting the Toy Story series end with the 3rd and allow them to be used in shorts. I’m hopeful that they’ve got more new movies in their back pockets that involve new characters and locales like “Brave” but I’m wondering if their just cashing in and letting the share-holders make some of the decisions. Sounds a lot like what happened at Disney many years ago when they started going direct to video…which is also something Pixar’s working on…PLANES!

  5. Not sure where can they go with this. Toy Story 3 was a fitting end and one of the best films so far in this young decade. I wouldn’t rule out a short film or two – but nothing major.
