Begins did have some silly/fantasy stuff in there, I thought the gas Scarecrow ingested (his own) that showed a Demonic looking batman was pretty cheesy stuff, and the Monorail/train was just bad IMO. 3rd act suffered that stuff. people tend to ignore, forget that scene.

TDK was a fantastic Crime Thriller that had supreme acting, action, and scope. not necessary a comic-book film. more like a Charles Bronson movie for this day and age, with Bats running around in it.

Although I enjoyed Batman Begins when it came out, I haven’t really had any desire to re-visit it. Wasn’t the tone of Begins much more fantastical than The Dark Knight?

I recall Begins still had a lingering influence of Tim Burton’s Batman, with a lot of impressionistic cityscapes, hints of esotericism from Ras and Scarecrow, and that gravity-defying sci-fi monorail system that factored so heavily into the plot.

Personally, I’d rather the series continue with the hyper-realism of The Dark Knight, rather than a return to the fantasy of Begins. The Gotham of The Dark Knight was filmed in present day Chicago, and Chicago was pretty much portrayed as it is. The fact that the new film is shooting its exteriors in Pittsburgh suggests to me that the new film will require a lot more SFX to create a convincing megacity. Not to knock Pittsburgh, its a nice city, but its no Gotham.

Anyway, I’m very cautious about this film. There are so few successful threequels out there, and this one already shows signs of bloat. I’m very concerned they’ll just phone this one in.

Bane in the League of Shadows?!?!, NICE! That makes him 100x more badass. Can’t wait to see him and Talia wreak havoc throughout Gotham city. Man, I hope will get to see an amazing (and well shot) one on one fight between him and the Bat.

You’re actually completely correct. If anyone did the research, they’d know that that’s actually a pit of the biohazardous chemical known as “Venom”.

In fact, in the film, Bane falls into the pit as a child and although he does obtain health benefits, his body also becomes dependent upon the chemical and cannot function for long periods of time without it.

The reason why Josh Pence was casted as a young Ra’s Al Ghul is because Ra’s finds Bane as a young child emerging from this pit of hazardous chemicals and takes it upon himself to take care of and train him, leading him to eventually become a member of the league of shadows.
