Adrianne Palicki will be TV’s Wonder Woman

The hunt for a Small Screen Diana Prince is over, and Friday Night Lights Adrianne Palicki will be the first actress since Lynda Carter to play Wonder Woman on TV.

Zap2It reports:

Palicki will assume the role of Diana Prince in NBC’s reboot of the 1970s series. Deadline.com reports that the actress was the only one the network invited to test for the role.

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a/k/a Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s The Event). Wonder Woman is from David E Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

Anyways, I have little exposure to this actress, but she certainly has the rack to fill out the costume (Although I hope they go more with the retooled Straczynski costume – more realistic and modern for a TV series). No doubt she will be getting a dark hair treatment for the role or the fanboys will loose their Underoos over it. But as far as presence goes, I don’t know if she can fill the Woman in Wonder Woman.

David E Kelley has a pretty solid track record for strong female lead TV series.

I will have to wait to see how they play it out. The Cape looked pretty good in previews too.

  1. Not my first choice as WW, but I am more than ok with it. The whole origin story thing from what I am hearing will have me worried a bit.

I’ll keep an open mind though, bring it on.

  2. She seemed to really grow as an actress on Friday Night Lights and I think she could be really good. My personal choice would have been Monica Bellucci but that’s probably a little outside the box for network TV.

    1. She’s a smoker thats for sure! BUT to qoute Angel from the Scarface scene where there in an ol’ convertable crusing South Beach: “She’s like a hundred eh-jeers ol!”

      senior cougar dude.

      1. Ha! Well said. I know she’s over the hill by Hollywood standards, but it is supposed to be “Wonder WOMAN.” I think she’s one of the few woman in the world that has the beauty to stand up to the Carter legacy, she’s got an exotic look that could help her pass as Amazonian, and she can actually act. I’m not even sure if this TV version is supposed to be Amazon though. Bellucci would have been amazing. If I could show you my whole mockup of her in costume, you’d be convinced :)

  3. the actress that they chose for the part doesn”t really bother me; it’s the writer that’s gonna sink this ship. David Kelley’s script sucks plain and simple. The fact that Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman + Diana Prince the working girl + Diana Thymescera corporate big wig = one season and done. At least with Smallville some of the details were changed but the basic story and soul of the character remained the same. All this version is is Wonder Woman meets Ally McBeal. Damn, even typing that last sentence sucked.

    1. You know David E Kelley has created far more than just Ally McBeal right?

LA Law, Doogie Howser MD, Picket Fences, The Practice, Boston Public, Boston Legal.

All of those shows have their own style and voice that never once indicate that he is a one-trick-pony. The one thing they do all have in common however is strong leading female roles.

I don’t think Kelley’s involvement at all makes this “Wonder Woman meets Ally McBeal”

  4. What, an announcement of a reinvention with no mention of it be “grittier” than the original? Yes, the discription makes it sound that way, but I though there was a law that there must always be mention of the remake/reinvention/reimaging being darker/grittier than the original?

  5. They should really be making a movie of this. Wonder Woman would be a bad ass movie. Instead of 300 part 2, Synder should be making a Wonder Woman Amazon’s attack movie. The coporate exec sounds kinda meh. She should be an Ambassador like she has been in some story arcs. I’ll check it out, hopefully it’ll be decent. WB really needs to get on the movie though.

  6. I think they won’t do the comic version and its costume. Instead, Wonder Woman would probably be wearing a dark jacket with tight black jogging pants as costume, much like the recent reboot in the comics.

  7. It’s one thing to tinker with the origin story — we’ve got 10 seasons of “Smallville” to attest to that. But at least with Smallville, the essence of the character remained intact.

Diana is not a corporate exec by day, Vigilante by night (or whenever). This shouldn’t be “Xena Warrior Princess” Meets “Working Girl”

One season. I make the claim now. One season and it fails.

  8. Rodney, have you read the script? Or rather, there was a website that got a hold of the script and did a play-by-play of it. I didn’t have huge hopes, just some fun TV but honestly, if they stick with that I read there, this show is going to be abominable. I’ll go see if I can find it again in case you haven’t read it.

  9. Friday Night Lights is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Constantly watching Palicki’s character throughout the 5 seasons, I know she’s got the acting chops. And aside from the blonde hair, she’s definately perfect for the role of Wonder Woman. So I have high hopes for this show!

And btw Rod, I think the Cape is pretty cool and interesting. I think what happened to the cop who dons the cape to be more tragic than what happened to Bruce Wayne as a child. And while the writing isn’t the best on cable rite now, it gets better with each new episode

  10. excellent choice! she’s absolutely gorgeous and if you’ve had the pleasure of watching her on FNL then you know she’s truly able to pull off being a strong female lead. I may watch this now…. unless there’s an invisible jet and a truth lasso. (corny)

  11. Blue eyes: Check
    Hot Body: Check (I assume)
    5′ 8′ +: Check (I Hope)
Nice Rack: Check (going off post)

    I’ll Approve.

But they gotta give me some Christina Hendricks-Kim Kardashian sister amazonian flashback scenes and shit, Right?
