The second movie deals with the interval between the originla Hobbit book, and Fellowship of the ring. Frodo in this new story is perfectly acceptable, and logical.

I think the Hobbit should stand on its own. With the exception of Frodo, Aragorn and Legolas, I cannot logically place any other LOTR character who doesn’t appear in the Hobbit for a cameo. Having Frodo cameos at the bookends can work if he is utilized the same way the grandfather in Princess Bride, and appear throughout the movie, otherwise its a waste of a cameo in my opinion. I can also see the hobbits appearing in a glimpse of the future, but nothing more than that.

Still I think even having that glimpse into the future would be detrimental to the film. I understand that the filmmakers want to bridge the hobbit to the LOTR, however this story stands on its own in the books, and I feel it should be able to do so. To illustrate, I enjoyed Iron Man 2, but I thought it would have been much better had it been more subtle in setting up the Avengers.

Well, not to be a besserwisser or anything, but Frodo don’t have any kids, he sails away togheter with Bilbo and the Elves. He gives Bilbo’s book to Sam and ask him to finish the last chapter. So if anyone should read to children it has to be him.

I’m guessing that Frodo will be in the last of the to films.

If they do it as you mention abouve, I’m fine with it. It would be a nice way to connect the movies.
