It’s dumbledore because he has most powerful wand in existence he has to let snape kill him he wasn’t afraid of death he was most powerful wizard ever he could get his bird to pick gandalf a eyes and burn his face also he is headmaster of a popular school and he has an army with ghosts that can never die giant spiders soul sucking deather eaters which can’t kill only of have a wand and a advance magic which makes it possible to kill gandalf and his army also a shitty gold ring isn’t going to hurt dumbledore so please ladies dumbledore will win also he can get the ministry of magic and btw I’m 11

I completely agree with you. Yet i disagree with you at the same time, i feel that JKRowling put more limits on Dumbledores power by making him human and also by creating a deep character with flaws. Gandalf however is kinda flawless, thousands of years old, extremely powerful, and seems to just know everything, a bit of a jesus character. His character is written to be exeedingly powerful, where as JK wrote Dumbledore to be just a very extraordinary human with magical blood.

Anyone who’s spoken to me for more than about 5 minutes knows I’m a massive Harry Potter fan. And anyone that has spoken to me recently knows that I’m currently nerding out on Lotr (so far I’m halfway through Two towers). So today I was thinking : Dumbledore Vs Gandalf, and I’ve done some research into other peoples opinions. And I have come to the conclusion that in a fight, Gandalf would win. But only because as a character Gandalf lacks depth. and it’s not only Gandalf that lacks depth, it’s all Tolkins characters, not that I’m really complaining as Tolkin more than makes up for this in his creation of middle earth, and it’s complicated and incredible history. J.K Rowling however has created complicated characters, and an intriguing storyline, yet the Harry Potter world is a lot less developed. Back to Dumby and Gandy, Gandalf is practically a demi God, thousands of years old, and after he died after his battle with the balrog, he was sent back as Gandalf the white, pretty cool dude, but he doesnt have much of a story, he’s a bit too super human, and in books so far he’s just been this guy who pops up giving hobbits adventures and just generally knows everything, and can do anything (like come back from the dead). This is why he would beat Dumbledore, because Dumbledore is a much more human and complicated character, at first he seems much like Gandalf, a merlin type wizard very powerful, and a bit nuts, but very much respected by everyone. But good old dumby has some secrets, and more importantly flaws. Dumbledore’s whole story is explained by his brother Aberforth, (I’m not going to explain it, you should know it already). And further more Dumbledores whole plan concerning Harry, then you realise, ok Dumbledore is actually a bit of an ass. A very clever ass, but all the same, a bit of an ass. All these things make Dumbledores character very intriguing, but just not ass baddass as Gandalf who is practically Jesus. So although I’m sure it would be a hard battle for both Gandalf would win in the end because he just isn’t as well written as Dumbledore was. Not that i think Gandalf is badly written, i just think Tolkin focused more on the world and languages he created rather than character developement

Dumbledore because Gandalf is not a wizard, he is a demi-god, so if one wizard competes with himself then he will obviously win

Gandalf. End of discussion… if He could use all of his powers ofc.. or else Dumbledore.. because of Gandalf’s reduced power in human form. And well… I don’t think Avada Kedavra (sorry for mispelling it if so) would have killed Gandalf… Gandalf could conjure a shield like when he fought the Balrog… or if he died (that means that his body has no life anymore, though his soul would be alive) Th evalar would count his mission unfullfilled and send him back;) Just admit it! Dumbledore can’t stand up to a Maiar (Demi god)

Depends on too many factors. If they were completely unconstrained, Gandalf with laughable ease. Gandalf wasn’t a mortal, he was Maiar, a demi-god. He was merely appearing to be a man so that he could aid the mortals in their struggles, but wasn’t allowed to fight directly. He might have even been able to match Sauron in sheer power.

However, if Gandalf was as constrained as he was during much of his journey in Middle-Earth, then Dumbledore. Magic in LOTR is generally more subtle then in Harry Potter. Gandalf didn’t go around throwing fireballs from his staff and killing people with a word. Dumbledore would just use his insta-kill spell and drop Gandalf.

Dumbledore! Why? First, with the elder wand, he can use any spell, from weak to the strongest spells. If Gandalf would use his most powerful spell, Dumbledore would probably say a spell quickly to disappear or the strongest shield. But heck- I wouldn’t imagine them dueling because they’re both good in all the novels.

Gandalf is a Maia, a demi-god/angel. Gandalf is not a mortal, nor a human, nor a “wizard” of the generic fantasy spellcasting type.He is naturally incorporeal, but can take on any form. He and a few others have been sent on a mission to help the peoples of Middle-earth against Sauron, a mission for which they have been clothed and bound in the form of old men; they are called the Istari, and mortals have called them “wizards”. Gandalf, in his current form of an old man, arrived in Middle-earth in the 11th century T.A. The physical body he has been clothed in limits him, his power and knowledge, but it does not really age. How we get to see him in the LotR has been his appearance for the past two thousand years.Hands down, Gandalf wins.
