I agree with Steven, a 7 season TV series would be much more suitable for Harry Potter. Who knows, they might make one someday.

By the time they starting really planning for these movies, they were already a mega success, unlike any other children’s book series. So I think a lot of this looking-back on things is rose-colored glasses. Yeah, it was a good business decision to make the live-action films, but it would have been a stupid one not to — even then.

I always thought that it would’ve worked best as a TV series, with 7 seasons.

I think it would have done great. Think of some of the great animated features from the 80’s, which Spielberg had a hand in some of these – The Land Before Time (Original, not sequels), An American Tale, and The Secret of Nimh, to name a few. I feel it could have very easily been like those, all of which are great.
