I didn't think it would be feasible to have a Top Gun 2 without Maverick or Cruise in the leading Role. No one wants to see a seguel to Top Gun with a bunch of people we don't give a crap about starring in it. You might as well call it Iron Eagle or something. So hat's off to the decision makers on this one, good job.

I'm pretty sure John McCain and Sarah Palin have ruined the word 'maverick' for everyone. Its not a political thing, its just that the word got thrown around so many times since 2008 that its lost all meaning. I get a little queasy just typing it.

Isn't it obvious:

Maverick is old-skool and he thinks the new recruits are a bunch of punks. They have a bunch of confrontations, and Maverick tries to prove that a pilot needs to be 'in the plane' to 'understand the plane'.

But the Bureaucrats have their way and the remote planes offer a cheaper and a less risky alternative to manned combat missions, and Maverick is forced to submit to flying remote planes.

Then there's an accident, one of the remote planes strikes an innocent civilian target. Its an accident that could have been avoided by a cockpit pilot.

Maverick freaks out. He storms out of his supervisor's office, jumps into his personal plane and flies off to blow off some steam.

Then a bogey interceptor encounters Maverick. Maverick is shot down behind enemy lines.

All the punk recruits gang together and go on a rescue mission.

The Punks learn the value of being in the real combat situation and discover how hard it is to take another person's life when its not on a computer screen. Maverick learns to be more cool-headed, and that the new recruits are good people too.

Ten quid that's the movie, in a nutshell.
