Underworld 4 Pushed Back to 2012

The latest installment of the Underworld series hoping to remind you that they were doing Vampires and Werewolves before Twilight was.

But you will have to wait a little longer to see Beckinsale back in the leather tights as the film is being delayed without official reason to the timeslot where movies go to die. Originally supposed to be out September 2011, the film will now come out January 2012.

Cinemablend says:

Underworld 4 has been cranking through development for quite some time now with Len Wiseman back at the helm, but even so Sony’s Screen Gems arm has decided to push release back from September 23, 2011 to January 20, 2012. They don’t cite a reason according to ComingSoon, but presumably they’re buying extra time to really hone the story. Screenwriter John Hlavin had this to say:

“It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”

I think the fans made it pretty clear that with the Underworld franchise, we dont want to see more about that world, we want to see more of Kate Beckinsale’s Seline.

The prequel was interesting, but I would prefer to see more of the modern day setting.

  1. Push back is ok, as long as not shelfed. Underworld has been excellent, yes even the 3rd one. Bringing the storyline together gives us more insight. As for the 4th one, I am sure it will be showing us How Celine becomes a Vampire, Viktor will be in it of coarse. And with Len handling the mojo, It will be great. Kiddie Vamp movies or kiddie vamp TV shows have no real depth or major story…Underworld destroys them with creativity, acting and plot. Only other show worth talking about is Tru Blood (great show). Here is a easy movie formula….Great actors + Great Story x Great budget = Great Movie ( also= happy movie studio lol)

  2. I thought these were all decent movies. The first one was obviously the best. I thought they blew their load in the second one explaining the whole back story of how vampires and werewolves were created. They should have saved that for the sequels.

I hope they get Beckinsale for this. I could care less about Speedman. Too bad they killed off Bill Nighy. He was awesome.

  3. I wouldn’t say January is where they are putting it to die. The other Underworld films all came out in January as well, I believe. At least the 3rd one did anyway, and I’m pretty sure the second did as well. All the same, I can’t wait to see it. I personally love the Underworld movies and have been hoping to see another one soon.

With that said, I wouldn’t mind a direct sequel to Rise of the Lycans. There is still much story to be told between that movie and the first, that I would love to see on-screen. Still, I’ll just be happy to finally have more Underworld to see.

    1. Yea I also don’t agree with the whole movies-go-to-January-to-die stuff. I mean this year January brought out two bad-ass movies, Daybreakers and Book of Eli.
