With more than one Janis Joplin biopic in the works, this just adds to the list of efforts made. And this latest attempt looks to be staring the infectious Amy Adams as Joplin.
Amy Adams will now play Joplin, and that’ll take all she’s got. If she pulls it off, that’s going to be something. It is hard to picture the sweet girl from Enchanted leading Big Brother and the Holding Company and overdosing on heroin, but both of those things have to be on the menu.
I have a hard time thinking of Amy Adams in such a gritty role, but all her past roles have varied enough to show she can play different personalities on screen.
My bigger wonder would be if they are going to actually get this movie made. It seems everyone who tries just ends up running into delays before drifting into limbo.
Adams can sing, but considering the dramatic difference in tone and style I would think her ability will just lend to a convincing performance. I would think they might replace her voice with actual Joplin tracks or a vocalist who sounds more the part.
She would just suck…Janis had much more depth this broad could ever put out there. Now, Dana Fuchs… SHE would be perfect.
I’m very much looking forward to her effort. After her gritty performance in The Fighter how can you question her acting chops in this regard. All I have to say about Mrs. Adams acting ability is WOW!, what an incredibly versatile actor. Anyway, that is my reply.
Just don’t see it.
