M. NIGHT’s stories may be original–because he steals other people’s ideas. The Sixth Sense was my husband’s concept. They collaborated…M. Night stole it. Why do you think he got NO awards for it?

And what is a “good movie”? One that a lot of people like or the ones that I like? What makes a movie good is the opinion of the viewer. You can’t list their “good” movies without considering that.

What I say are his Good movies are not what you might say are good, and likely all for very different reasons.

His last 2-3 films I didnt care for, but up until Lady in the Water I liked his movies. That was the first step downhill for me. In part because you are always looking for “the twist” but more that I just wasnt engaged in what was going on there.

Before that, his movies stood on their own and I liked them. I just got tired of his “schtick” as you put it. Hopefully Airbender will prove different for him.

I agree that his films are original. It’s for that reason that I keep watching. Even though the village and lady in the water were not great films, his story telling kept me interested in the characters. I never care what the movie going masses or critics think about movies. I have a brain that works and I can make up my own mind.

I would like to see a list of what you think his ‘good’ movies are, really. I can only think of one — the Sixth Sense. I guess Unbreakable may have its fans, but it was never very popular by the public and had mixed reviews with critics. So I’ll give him one good movie and one decent one — but that’s it. The Village was horrific, Signs was an utter disappointment. I never bothered to see Lady in the Water or The Happening, but I heard they were his worst.

You say he’s original. I say he has a schtick. The first in a schtick is original, the next 5 or 6 are as formulaic and disappointing as most everything Hollywood throws are way.

I’m not saying he doesn’t have a set of skills. I think he does some things well as a director, I just think he’s been mostly miss as a story teller. I’m actually mildly optimistic that The Last Airbender may be a surprise hit, but only because it isn’t his story to tell. We’ll see if he’ll be able to do it justice. If this flops, though, with its pre-built-in franchise and the huge marketing campaign its had — and if this movie with that acting line-up flops — I’d say he’s done in the business, for all intents and purposes.

Sounds good! I’m on board with almost anything Shyamalan does, but this does sound intriguing.

In reply to Rodney. I agree, I'm actually not sure that i want a unbreakable sequel. Just merely pointing out that from this description we cant come to the conclusion that it isn't a sequel.

In reply to Todd Horst. Some things just dont need a sequel. M. Night films in particular are set up to be isolated stories with nothing more to say on the subject. Not every movie needs a sequel. Unbreakable was my fav Shamhammer film, but I dont need to see a sequel to it. It would cheapen the story.

Why couldn’t this be unbreakable? The villain could be another bad guy with Cooper being his opposite. Willis is there to guide and band with another good guy, possibly pass the torch and set up a new generation (cooper) for a possible trilogy.
