The key word for me is “starring”. So here’s my line of thinking. You won’t like it.

Right off the bat I eliminate “X-Men First Class” even though he was considered for Gambit at one time. Same thing for the ‘Spider-Man’ reboot where he could play the bad guy. The properties are not owned by Marvel Studios, they are owned by other studios who have the rights to these characters. They are the only two in active casting.

But it is tempting…

But anyway, “starring”. I’m racking my brain on this one. The obvious choices would be, as hinted above, a role in Avengers (Hawkeye, Ant-Man or even Vision, for that matter) *although* I wouldn’t rule out a foe like Super Skrull either (see, you hate me already)

Relax.

I’m thinking Namor.
No, I’m dead serious.

Chop off his locks and beard. Die his hair darker.
Have him cameo in Capt. America as one of The Invaders. (Hell, use him in the stinger!)

And what’s more:

Marvel wants a film based on a lower tier character. Namor’s had a rich history, but still…

it’s either this or Fox just gave up Daredevil.
My point of view.

The Avengers is Marvel’s flagship team. Minus Spiderman and Wolverine, the most recognizable characters in the Marvel universe will all be part of this movie. People will go see the Avengers in part because they’ve already enjoyed The Hulk, IM1 & 2 and by then Thor and Captain America. The Avengers will draw in fans from each of those franchises and also introduce new lesser characters. I can see the big four (Cap, Thor, IM and the Hulk) continuing to be tent pole summer movies while characters like Hawkeye and Antman receive smaller movies in the vein of the Blade series. I also don’t see how they’d make more money producing a HBO or television series then they will with a hit movie. IM2 cost around $200 mill to produce and will make somewhere north of $600 million worldwide. Movies need to make twice their production cost to be profitable so $600 million means they’ll make a $200 million profit at the box-office before the first DVD is sold. I can’t see them making that much from a television series.

I am not very familiar with Cap’s story or Shield. But in Iron Man 2 I think they said something about Shield starting during World War 2. Could Dugan work as one of the founders?

Marvel can’t make Gambit. He is part of the library of chracters that Fox owns.

But I could see him as a Gambit.
