All I heard is blah blah blah pretty.

Modeling is all about looks and how the picture looks. Its just looks. Models are not required to talk. They are required to look a part. They hire models for one reason only. How they will look in a picture.

Do you honestly think that she would have stood any chance against a couple thousand pretty girls on an open call for “girls who think they would look good as a Mermaid” if it wasn’t for her celebrity?

She’s pretty. Its her job to do so.

That they picked her for this job I am certain is 100% because they felt she would LOOK the part.

That’s such a shallow opinion of what modeling is. Yeah, it’s based on their looks but they’ve got to interpret a story, they’ve got to adjust to every tiny detail for whatever they’re wearing or trying to convey. Modeling is an art, especially when it comes to Gemma Wards work. There’s a big difference between Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and the modeling she does and what Gemma was involved in. Gemma was involved with the high fashion, the couture, avante garde side of fashion. The really strong art based area as opposed to the mens magazines and looking sexy, that Rosie is generally part of. I know I’m making a big fuss over nothing but I just don’t like how easily some girls are dismissed and belittled for being models. If they were going for pure looks alone, they wouldn’t have chosen Gemma. She’s too much of an awkward beauty, and yeah, that is fitting with her being a mermaid – if it was solely based on looks, they could’ve gotten someone more attractive to the ‘general audience’.

All I was trying to say, instead of my little rant about models, was I don’t think she was hired purely for looks. I believe she does have some acting ability and she would’ve been cast because of that. It’s not as if they’ve got a bunch of mediocre actors working in this film.

Models are eyecandy. Thats what models do.

That she is also getting into acting is an attempt to be more than that, which to the general audience she has not done much of. What she has done is completely unknown to the grand majority.

and, I think it’s a bit insulting to her work if anyone dismisses her off as just another model coming into acting. Gemma has been one of the most successful models of that past few years and she’s worth a lot more then just be given the ‘eye candy’ title.

I’m looking forward to her as a mermaid, with this and the upcoming narnia movies, I’m glad to see mermaids getting a bit more limelight!
