The Green Lantern official synopsis

Here’s some quick movie news. From what we’ve read and seen online, all of us assumed that Green Lantern’s villain/s would be Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) or/and Siniestro (Mark Strong). Apparently that’s not all. ComicBookMovie.com has somehow managed to get a hold of the film’s official synopsis. This is what it states:

ComicBook Movie says:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lies in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human evert selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

I’m one of the many of who assumed that Hammond or/and Siniestro would play villains in this movie. This news takes me by surprise. I don’t know how they are going to work this into the story. Somehow it feels to me like this character is reminicent of Superman 3’s Bizarro and Spiderman 3’s parasitic Venom. My knowledge regarding this particular character is way low; so if any of you out there does know, please elaborate for us.

The Green Lantern is scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release. Can’t wait!

  1. Hmmm… Parallax already in part 1 … I think we’re going to see hints of the “Green Lantern : Rebirth” storyline in this movie. I hope the “Sinestro Corps War” gets adapted in part 2 or 3.

  2. When Hollywood starts banking big bucks on 3rd rate comic heroes like Green Latern, its a sign that comic movies are in the death throws.

Seriously, superhero fatigue has set in and all the movies are starting to look the same. Witness, for instance, the bomb that was Kick-Ass, that made the terrible mistake of looking like the bomb that was Watchmen.

  3. Yeah, hopefully they are patient with the story arc and let things develop, that to me is the biggest problem a comic book movie can face, the film has to restrain itself from trying to cram everything into one film. It sounds like they have a plan and if they stick to it, this could be a great franchise with some great mythology to be explored.

  4. They are gonna go the route of Sinestro wanting to do cold acts to stop Parallax and Hal going against him, something the other green lanterns wouldn’t because they feared sinestro. Hal’s Humanity will stop parallax when sinestro is defeated causing him shame and hal glory and in jealousy sinestro will plot revenge and go bad (sequel). Hammond will be an aide to Parallax to finding a weakness in hal or something like that, purely complimentary.

    Just my thoughts.

  5. Well Sinestro definitely wouldn’t be a villain in this one yet. Like his earlier career as one of high ranking Green Lantern soldier. He definitely would be Hal’s mentor on this. Like Rodney always wrote in earlier blog. He wouldn’t turn to yellow side.. yet

    1. Not quite, but I see the reference.

In Superman3 the fake Kryptonite causes Superman to go evil, and most fans consider that the closest thing to a Bizarro in the films.

It was more Bizarro-like, but Bizarro was not in the movie.

      1. Yup, that’s what I was referring to.

When younger, I used to love that fight between good supes and bad supes. Now, when I saw that like 20 yrs. later – I was delightfully ashamed of it lol.

Remember when bad supes throws all the car tires and traps clark? hahaha vintage!
And when his in the bar and flicks a peanut and destroys the mirror geeesh lol

  6. I have been wondering if in the film they will bring up green lanterns weakness, weather it be the color yellow (like the color of objects) or go old school and choose wood (as in wood products). Maybe they will make an actual weakness for him.

    1. Well it looks like they are squaring up to tell the entire story since all the players are accounted for (ie Sinestro, Parralax, Abin Sur etc). I could see the first scene being the birth of fear and the origin of Parralax before getting to Abin Sur crash landing on earth. Personally I hope we get to see Oa and the central power battery and all that junk…shoudl be pretty sweet. With Parralax and Sinestro being in the film they could get into the whole “yellow” plot line and why the power rings dont work on it.

  7. humans possess humanity becuase we are humans… but im sure aliens call it something else… kryptonians call it… “kryptanity”…

im kidding, i have no idea what its called.

humans are the worst… and do the most evil, even if a bear is mauling hitler, who is more evil, the bear or hitler… the human…

  8. Minor peeve…why is it that only humans are allowed to possess what we call “humanity”? Are all alien races supposed to be cold uncaring beings or some junk?

  9. Parallax is an interesting foe, as he is an alien entity that has mental powers that feed on fear.

One of the greatest things about the Lantern’s power ring is that it is only limited by the wearer’s willpower, and therefore its greatest enemy would be one that could inspire doubt and fear taking away GLs advantage.

Should be interesting if this is true, to see how it works into the plot.
