I saw Julie and Julia at an early screening and absolutely loved it! Meryl Streep was her usual brilliant self and the remaining cast was excellent as well. The script was well written and I was fascinated throughout the movie by the depth of emotions it touched upon. It also left me very, very hungry for a decadent meal.

I wasn’t saying it like I meant “I can’t understand because he didn’t give valid reasons” In that matter than I do understand, I meant “I can’t understand because those movies were so good” If he doesn’t like a film that I do than that’s fine I just won’t be able to see where he’s coming from, for example his Harry Potter Half Blood Prince review, there were some complaints that I could agree with(lack of action, vanishing cabinets) but there were some things he complained about that seemed a little nitpicky(why is Malfoy still in Hogwarts, the sea cave)

Obviously, I can’t answer on John’s behalf, but I will say this:

He’s discerning in different ways than many of his readers are. His opinions are the product of his age, his upbringing, his experiences, which on some days means that he sees things waaaaaaay differently than some of you.

He has his own BullshitDetector, you have yours. They’re each set to their own parameters. (For the record, I understand where he’s coming from on almost all occasions.)

In reply to Kristopher Tapley. There are some movies that you dislike that I can't wrap my head around why, for instance some of the Pixar films like WALL-E and Up, but that's everyone, I can't understand why John hates some movies like the Wresler and Harry Potter Half Blood Prince

Wow! I’m shocked! This movie started out with bad reviews, but they rose up quickly. I’m not entirely suprised though, because Meryl Streep usually picks good projects.

And an actual ilm for adults. (Which eliminates about 90% of this site’s readers.)

Uh, no. It’s not the cast. It’s the *script*. It starts…and sometimes ends…with the script. ‘You can’t shine a turd.’

Well, I would expect nothing else from Meryl Streep actually. She is a quality actor who is under-appreciated by the newer generation.

To be honest I grew up having to watch Julia Childs (Mom was a fan)and she was the most bland/boring person on camera, it was just painful to watch her as she grew older.

I was really skeptical that this movie would work. I guess you never know, especially when you have a great cast involved.
