The music is called 'Freedom Fighters' by Two Steps From Hell, an outfit that specialise in trailer music. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anywhere where you can even listen to the damn piece, let alone download it. Doesn't appear to be available to people outside of the industry.

Right with you there Mark. Its great to see the original concept rebooted while preserving the history of what has gone on before.

To confirm - the music in the trailer is not from the movie score.

I've been a bit out of touch with the plot developments of the new movie. I just watched the new trailer then had to watch it again to see if I heard the line correctly: "...but that was another life." As a 52 year old fan since TOS first aired, that line literally sent chills up my spine. That this new movie isn't just a remake or even a re-imagining of the origins of Star Trek, but instead a sequel/prequel via a new time line is incredible. Nothing old is tainted and yet it's all new again. The trailer surpasses all my expectations. Like others have said, let's hope the best scenes are waiting for us in the movie. How friggin' exciting!!!

I really love the music in the trailer. Someone here said it wasn't from the film. Is that fact?

It's got an amazing vibe about it. I so cannot wait for this to come out. My 8yr old son watched the trailer about fives times with me and wants to start watching Trek tomorrow. He's never been inclined to do so before even though I have been on at him about how much he would like it.

Kirk's father being a hero or not is irrelevant. He was mentioned in the trailer as someone Pike knew and respected.

He was a starship captain for 12 minutes! He saved a lot of lives including Kirk. Pike recognized the name when he was in the bar and encourages young rebellious Kirk to enlist and make something out of himself. Honour his father.

That is pretty much the end of his father's importance at that point. Why is it a big deal that he did something heroic? It's just a plot hook. It doesnt change anything about Kirk.

@ Ron&Dude

Why does Kirk's father have to be a hero? He could have been anything. You say it helps him aspire to be great? Kirk as we know is a rebel, its possible his father is a straight by the book guy. But again I just dont see the point in making his father a hero. If I was offered to write a film of a popular franchise I would. But Im just a guy voicing his opinion just like everyone else. I dont have to like what I see because the greater majority likes it too. Nor do I need to be a writer to know good or bad writing. One more thing... I love Howard the Duck.
