Twilight 2 Opens November 20th 2009

The news and evolution of the whole Twilight movie world has been coming fast and furious the last week or so. First a director gets dropped, then a new one gets hired, and now an official release date for Twilight 2 (New Moon) has been announced.

Twilight 2 officially opens on November 20th 2009. Less than a year from now. As of this moment it’s scheduled to open up against the Robert Downey Jr film “Sherlock Holmes” and the new Three Stooges remake.

Now, I know being just a year away may not seem like a lot of time to get a movie together, and some people may feel tempted to proclaim that the studio is “rushing it”. I however would totally disagree. A year is PLENTY of time… WORLDS of time… an ETERNITY of time to get a film like this put together and released with lots of time to spare.

Many films have less that 30 days of shooting with the majority of films being under 60 days. Most indie films will be much less than that. With Twilight, they already have the books, they already have their team, their cast, their financing… they’re ready to go. Twilight is also not a super visual effects heavy film at all… so it’s not like it’ll need 6 months of post production or anything like that either.

So yes, a year for a film like Twilight 2 is tons of time.

  1. I really think there is going to be good and bad with everything. I absolutely loved all the books they were amazing .As far as the movie even though it was a 2 hour monie there was a lot of things that were missing and different from the book . I have found that the book was so much better even though I loved the movie as well.

  7. OK THEY MAY SAY ITS PLENTY OF TIME BUT THEY START SHOOTING IN 11.5 WEEKS AND THEY HAVE LESS THEN 11 WEEKS TO DECIDE IF taylor lautner IS STILL BEING jacob black …. I REALLY HOPE SO HE’S SOOO AMAZING FOR THE ROLL…..ANYWAYZ ITS GOING TO BE SAD SINCE robert pattinson WILL BARELY BE IN IT…..ALSO I SAW IN AN INTERVIEW WITH kellan lutz THAT HE GOT A FEW LINES IN THE MOVIE AND HE SAID THEY ARE PRETTY HILARIOUS SO IM LOOKING FOWARD FOR A GOOD LAUGH & THE TEARS THAT WILL RUN DOWN MY CHEEKS IN LESS THEN A YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. i loved the first movie and im sure the second is going to be amazing but i think u should make the scene when he runs fast more realistic cuz it looks like he was flying and another thing i think is when he climbs the tree it just looks kind of fake but every thing else was amazing and i already saw the movie twice and i\as soon as it comes out on dvd in getting it : )

  9. Bobby,

I’ve come to find that a good number of Twilight fans will never be happy because they cannot see past their beloved text. Frankly I’m at the point where I loathe a majority of the fans and take a little bit of pleasure at their whining for every decision they feel is the end of the world. I think it’s time to stop caring, to a degree, what the fans want and worry about making a good movie. I guarantee you that no matter how many scream they won’t see the movie if such and such happens they will be there on opening day.

  10. “A year is NOT “Plenty of Time”…. for a SCRIPT!!!!”

Yes it is. It all depends on if the script is liked enough, not overtly watered down by committee, and in this case, they actually have started writing the first drafts of the sequel already, so it’s actually already over a year.

And like em or leave em, the Saw films also have a script.
    So did Wag The Dog.

  11. Meli,

Uhh… I’m glad the Studio likes it… ha ha ha
Let’s see if the fans do. I’m sure they
liked the script for “Twilight”… and look
how everyone (Fans) are liking that one.

    Will see,

  12. ITS CALLED NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (sorry.)

i see that you guys brought up the term “rushing it” already but….i just hope thatt hey DONT rush it

i mean i really dont want them to get the werewolf morphing wrong…ugh

well i want to know who theyre casting as the vulturi!!!!!!

  13. Bobby,
The first draft of the script is already done Melissa turned it in and the word is the studio liked it, so they do have a script to work with.

    Padthai,
Regardless of how the actors supposedly feel about Hardwicke’s dismissal they are professional and are paid to work with the director. If they’re going to throw tantrums they can be replaced. I doubt either of the main actors would. The only actor I see possibly leaving because of Catherine’s departure would be Nikki Reed because they’re so close.

    John,
It is possible to put New Moon together and release by Nov however it still does feel a little rushed. I understand your point, but New Moon will be, or should be, heavier on effects with the addition of more supernatural characters. It may be possible to pull it off and I hope they do and that it flows better than Twilight.

  14. Hey Bobby,

I disagree with you on this. I thought the effects in Twilight were just fine for what they were. Remember, Twilight is a $37 million dollar budget movie, not a $150 million budget movie like TDTESS.

And no… the amount of effects in Twilight wouldn’t take that long, even if done the way you wanted them done. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with “rushing it”

    1. I have to agree with John. There aren’t very many parts of the movie that need special effects, most of it is quite simple. For the most part they just had some problems that needed to be worked out. Thats probably the reason for the delay in the 2nd movie. The 1st movie was really good in my opinion.

  15. Also, from what you said…

“Twilight is also not a super visual effects heavy film at all”…

Right… as it showed in the movie… WHICH SUCKED!!!!
UHHH… they need A Lot more time for the effects if there
going to turn out looking like the first movie…!!!

Sorry… a story / script is important but I sure don’t like to be pulled
out of one for lazy / rushed… effects… :( Not in this day & age of
effects work John. As mentioned a few days ago in your review of
“The Day the Earth Stood Still”….

“just about all the other effects shots were nothing short of piss poor in my opinion”

“With today’s technology and talent out there, there is no excuse for that type of poor work on a multi million dollar film project like The Day The Earth Stood Still”…

And the same goes for “Twilight”…!!! The effects were piss poor!!!
Again… studios just rushing the whole project just to make
a quick buck. I wanted to see what all the hype was in this
movie…. but not once did I see it!!!

  16. His work of adapting The Golden Compass should provide him with at least some legitimate recognition of his ability. While that movie wasn’t the greatest I thought it was actually very enjoyable and I was not expecting to like it at all. If anything, I blame the source material for any weaknesses of that film.

  17. A year is NOT “Plenty of Time”…. for a SCRIPT!!!! Obviously, the studios
are putting this on the fast track… :( Figures… since Twilight pretty
much sucked based on the main audience’s (mine) opinion and most
major critics. They are obviously jumping on this thing FAST… while it’s
still hot; for now that is. Do yourselves a favor; just enjoy the books!!!
Less disappointment; in my opinion… :(

    1. I totally agree with you about the book part. I did like the movie I just expected so much more out of it I guess. I was totally in love with the characters, and if they take the script from te books I think a year may be plausible??

  18. yeah 1 year is plenty of time to make a movie. Filming a movie only takes 2 months time, and after that post production will be pretty easy since this isn’t some big epic shoot.

My only worry is with Weitz and how the cast will get along with him. They are angry that Hardwicke was removed, and I am sure it will be awkward for them. Also I think he got picked because he was friends with the boss of the production company. He doesn’t really have the credentials to do a movie like this. His filmography is filled with comedies, nothing that would indicate he is a good pick for this movie.
