@Wing Chun, his stands on Global Warming and climate change have repeatedly been destroyed by the scientific community. I do hope that your statement is in deep sarcasm or else I fear for your students.

Sadly he was lost within the science of his fiction, but he was a masterful writer, and an entertaining read.

As a Geology teacher, I was always impressed with Chriton’s grasp of the scientific, and amazed by his ability to make the complex understandable.

He was also, in my humble opinion, the wordls single greatest authority on the subjects of “global warming” and “climate change.”

The loss of his intellect is a great blow to our popular culture.

Umm, kudos aside, you guys seem to have forgotten that Crichton became a big Bush adherent and Global Warming denier .

He may have been a science-fiction writer, but in his last days, he was disappointingly anti-science.

I agree with you about Timeline… they butchered it.

Crichton was one of the best reads… always looked forward to reading his new novels. Such a shame.

There is also one more thing I would like to add:

Michael Crichton was also a fairly decent director (Runaway is a guilty pleasure; Westworld and The Grain Train Robbery also come to mind)…and how he saved The 13th Warrior.

Note: I still didn’t care for Twister, one of the few scripts he wrote that wasn’t based on one of his books; and the idea for Jurassic Park 4 (Dinos w/ guns) is STILL lame…and he didn’t have a thing to do with it.

They REALLY butchered The Lost World. You guys should read that book. It’s far superior to the shitty film with some girl doing gym-fu on a raptor.

I’m not big on reading, but I’ve never passed up a new Michael Crichton novel on the stands. He will be missed.
