Intel and Dreamworks partner up for Tru 3D

3D Animation is truly the direction of animation for the future so not ever one to be left behind, processor supergiant Intel has hopped on with a partnership with Dreamworks Animation to get the job done.

Yahoo says:

Katzenberg’s DreamWorks Animation and No. 1 chipmaker Intel Corp announced a 3-D movie image brand called InTru 3D at Intel’s Developer Forum in San Francisco on Wednesday.

The first movie from DreamWorks Animation to use the brand and logo will be “Monsters vs. Aliens,” coming out next March.

It is a smart move for Intel to make these sort of strides to get in on the industry in such a visual way. Intel processors have been used in computers to make animtion for a long time, but to actually create a branded initiative offers up more awareness for the brand.

But unlike just “sponsoring” and paying for product placement Intel is really helping to improve the industry and Dreamworks has such potential despite their hit or miss animation appeal. If it doesnt say Shrek or Kung-Fu Panda on it, they haven’t been the most successful but still managing to stay moderate with their productions.

  1. I defend it because I like it. I see nothing wrong with their films.

I enjoy their films a great deal. Now if they put out a stinker I will be the first in line to say it was.

The point you and Mickey seem to be missing is that bashing on Pixar simply puts you in the minority. Thats all.

  2. Rodney, you said “Nearly Every kid (except yours)”
I mean its right there to read. Clearly not “Lots”.

Again its guys like you, that defend Pixar like its a family friend that crack me up.
    Go Pixar!! Haha.
    Toy Story 16 yeah !!

  3. Ah, so you are resorting to hyperbole to attempt to derail my statement.

I said LOTS. I didn’t say every. I also said you could like what you wanted to. Your call. No one is saying you are wrong. Just a minority.

    Sorry. I dont feed trolls.

  4. We’re not talking about what was done during the Walt Disney years.

As for the “Cars” comment, Are you’re telling me you know EVERY kid? I don’t know if you know but that movie was the least liked of all Pixar movies even by the critics but it’s true that what it lacked in creativity it made up for it in merchandising and that is why they’re doing a second one.

I stated my opinion but you can’t stand the very thought of someone not having the same feeling you have and now you want to make a big deal about it. Let’s just say that we agree to disagree and leave it at that. OK!

  5. Mickey, ever animated movie stems from the dumbest idea ever if you approach it with that kind of snark.

So a princess who lives with seven dwarves of conflicting personality types gets poisoned by an apple that only a prince’s kiss can cure? Dumb.

    But it works.

No one jumped down your throat, but its a plain and simple numbers game. Look around. Nearly Every kid (but yours) seems to love pixar movies. More than half the kids last year had Lightning McQueen shoes, tshirts or backpacks on the first day of school (mine included) because it was popular.

  6. Im not talking about 3d like the red and blue glasses leaping off the screen 3d…. i mean computer animated vs 2d cell animations.

Pixar already does 3d animation. Thats what its called.

    Sorry about the confusion.

  7. Is 3D really important? But as long as Pixar does it too (their next movie UP will be on 3D) I guess it will be fun to watch the competition.

And I agree with Rodney. Pixar was one of the best. Period.

  8. I’m probably the last one to comment here but oh well… I love the news about Intel joining with dreamworks. I think 3-D has a ways to go, but I think the potential is huge both in movies and video games.

I was in Best Buy and saw a tv that said “3-D ready”. Oh yeah….whatver that means I’m happy about it.

Mickey M. My favorite pixar also has been Incredibles. I was just so impressed by that movie. I must say though, that IMO every movie pixar does is a masterpiece as far as quality goes. They really do put other animation studios to shame.

I hear PIxar will be doing Toy Story in 3-D. Can’t wait.

  9. Who says I’m in the minority. Why is it that Pixar fanboys feel the need to ram Pixar down everybody’s throat? I used to like Pixar movies but they aren’t what they used to be so I’ve moved on. I think Pixar has forgotten who they make movies for (hint-hint – children). They seem to be making movies for themselves without a care in the world on whether regular people will like it. I mean seriously a movie about a RAT who dreams of being a chef (who came up with that idea because to me it’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard).

  10. @Nixon, the article talks about the “next generation” of 3d animation and how Dreamworks and Intel have formed a partnership to bring that about.

It does look good, and its soon to be looking better.

  11. I didnt question it Mickey. I said you were in the minority. You were questioning my statement that Pixar was considered the best in that field.

The only question I offered was to wonder what you actually thought was quality since you clearly do not like Pixar.

  12. Rodney,

I gave my opinion and you questioned it so I answered. If you don’t like my answer then simply ignore it.

    790,

You’re right, I said movie but meant to say they do it for the money. Sorry about that!

  13. I don’t get what Intel has to do with it anyways, I mean wether they are involve or not, Computer Animation always looked good.. so to me its no different…

  14. Fight the Future!!
Resisting 3D,,, till the bitter end.

Not a Pixar fan, overated group for sure. Their films are all basically childrens films with just enough going on, they also capture the little kid in the adult.
( I love the way Pixar fans treat those that couldnt-give a crap, a hard time and call us souless bitter ppl) halarious.

    MMouse
I disagree with your assesment of the studios only doing it for the movie ??
Movies are a product for sale in the form of a ticket or a dvd. their not curing cancer bro,,,

  15. And you have every right to over analyze your way out of enjoying quality entertainment.

My kids cant get enough of it, and Pixar is one of the few movies my kids WILL sit through in the theater.

I have to disagree there Mickey. But you go find yourself something “better”. I dont tell people what to like.

  16. How do you figure they hit it out of the park?

    – I thought Cars was mediocre at best but I thought it was better when I saw the movie the first time when it was called “Doc Hollywood”.
    – I found Ratatouille alright but the kids hated the movie and forced us to leave the theater before the movie was even finished.
    – Finally, Wall-E was sold to us as movie about a cute robot but a third of the way through the movie Pixar decided to get political and push viewpoints I don’t share with them.

I’ve seen all of Pixar movies in theaters and bought their entire DVD collection until “The Incredibles” but I think they are slowly losing me as a fan.

  17. Wow “Mickey Mouse” you are really in a minority there. Pixar hits it out of the park every time and it just keeps getting better.

No one has done better than Pixar in quality of animation, boxoffice success or broad appeal. So if Pixar is just crap I can’t imagine what passes for quality in your household.

  18. First you should know Ice Age wasn’t a DreamWorks movie and second, I think Pixar used to make good movies up to and including “The Incredibles” but after that movie everything they’ve done is crap (Cars, Rat & Wall-E). The comment about studios making movies for the money is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. All studios are in it for the movie and that includes Intel, Disney and DreamWorks.

  19. I think one of the best Dreamworks films was Ice Age. However this was ruined with the sequels. I don’t have much respect for Dreamworks. They seem to make cheap copies of Pixar movies (Shark Tale) and don’t care about the content as much as just getting a movie out for the money. Finally when ever they do come out with a good movie (Ice Age, Shrek) they destroy the first with sequels.

  20. They should start animating real actors into these films. They can pull it off. Who knows maybe Intel has a chip that will make crappy actors into great actors or at least decent.
