Halloween 2 Will Be Zombieless

Mike-MyersRob Zombie’s Halloween is going to have a sequel sans Rob Zombie!? We get this confirmation/confusion from our friends at FILM JUNK:

French filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Inside) were previously attached to direct the Hellraiser remake, but once they dropped out of that project, there were rumours that they had entered talks to do the Halloween sequel. It seems that this is now pretty much confirmed. The duo had this to say about the project:

“It’s a proposition we couldn’t refuse… Our vision will be done with utmost respect, with a continuity of [Zombie’s] work but also a real evolution of the world he set in place.”

I still need to catch Zombie’s Halloween, but find it very strange that his baby maybe getting new parents. I have talked to people on both sides of the fence in regards to this film, but I think even those that didn’t fancy it would be surprised at this decision. I suppose it ‘s not really that big of a deal, different directors have been brought on board a franchise before (see Harry Potter), but Rob was the one that was cheerleading this reboot and it seems peculiar not to have him on board.

I ask you international friends, do you think this is good news, bad news or do you care at all? Has this announcement lessened or heightened your expectations.?

  1. you screw ups you dont see the atmosphere that rob zombie had with the feeling of michael and why he is the shape also at least they can remake the series and not have a h3 with stupid masks that kill people.also rob zombie im not a fan of his other movies but i though halloween was a great remake you people are just fan boys of the original.o get over a remake sequel little queers

  2. hold on people! first off Zombie’s remake kinda sucked. It draged too long in the first half of the film and gave Michael too much emotion as a child, which to, me killed the whole premiss of the movie. I think there should be another remake instead where Michael is less angry as a child and instead eerily shy, in an almost “innocent” kind of way . Also they should completely lose the whole disfunctional family thing in the begining. However, I didn’t mind the scenes where Michael was in the psych hospital. If Zombie had just made Michael like that from the start of the film it would have been a better movie (that and a few other minor details, especially that scene when he is sitting outside alone with 70s rock music playing in the background… that was stupid). In general I don’t really like Zombie’s films. He trys to make you sympothize too much with the psychos in his movies, which ends up completely the ruining the entire point of a horror film.

  3. I’m very much in the camp of people who didn’t like the RZ Halloween. I thought that showing so much of the back story sort of ruined it. Showing that someone who grew up in a bad environment with no morality applied was able to very easily turn into a killer wasn’t that interesting.
To me the original was spookier at least because you don’t really know much about how or why he got to be the way he is. And maybe I was hoping for a bit more depth on that end, but the route that RZ took seemed to be too easy, and disappointing.

With all that said, I would be interested to see what a different set of writers and directors could do with the story.

  4. who cares?

it’s not like the original stories were a one off. there’s like, 8 halloween films in the first franchise so what’s the big deal about a sequel to the reboot?

  5. I think that the guys from inside could create a really creepy film with great tension (inside) and capture the spirit of michael as the shape (not just a big guy with a messed up childhood)

  6. I for one did not care much for Zombie’s remake/reimagined film, but the last twenty minutes of the film was completely outstanding and it’s a shame he didn’t have the same gutso with the rest of the film (I found out later that the last fifteen minutes were “added on” as an off the cuff afterthought!) – but to me, it still didn’t hold a candle to John Carpenter’s original. Hell, not even H20. Even Halloween 4 Return Of Myers was better. Sorry, folks. It was.

But here’s the thing: Zombie’s ending sealed it. No bait and switch, no missing bodies after explosions, yadda yadda yadda.
CUT and DRY. **No** wiggle room. It’s done. Mikey’s done. Over and out!

So…Halloween 2 remake is really… a remake of Halloween III: Season Of The Witch !!

  7. Eh…

I didn’t like the original Halloween but I still stand by my opinion that I really liked Zombie’s version. This coming from someone that didn’t like Devil’s Rejects.

But by the looks of it, Zombie never planned on a sequel. The ending pretty much ended it completely. Why do these stupid horror movies gotta bring their villains back to life.

  8. I liked the original Halloween but having said that I did really enjoy Zombie’s take on the events too. He revamped it slightly, twisted it, and gave it more insight. Having a remake to the Zombie version without The Zombie?…not keen on that idea at all to be honest. I’m not a Rob Zombie fan, but I thought that what he did with the remake of this movie was just what it needed. I revelled in the background to Myers that he provided (despite many people despising this part).
Would prefer to see Zombie make a sequel, but I will probably still watch it whether he is involved or not.

  9. This news isnt surprising in the least. Rob Zombie has always stated that he would only make the one Halloween and would not make a sequel.

I’m on the “liked it” side of RZ’s Halloween. I’m a huge fan of his work, but when the project was announced way back when I have to say I was skeptical because I don’t typically like remakes and Halloween is one of my favorite horror flicks. I have my issues with his version of Halloween, but on a whole I liked it and I’ve given it repeat viewings.

I am not familiar with these filmmakers, but if they give us something good I’ll check it out.

  10. The remake was horrible. What the hell are they going to do with this one other than try to squeeze more money out of all the teens that will go see this with their date on a Saturday night?

  11. lol that was my question from yesterday’s show about ur thoughts about this :P

Reason I asked is because the duo directors only directed one movie. They dont have much experience, to be given a big movie like Halloween is pretty risky I find.

Has anyone seen the movie “inside” written and directed by those two ??
