Fanboys Set To Screen At Comic Con

FanboyWell this is good news all around! Many around these parts have been interested in the film Fanboys, and now it looks like it will not only be released, but the horrible changes that were being spoken of have been rolled back! We get the following news thanks to our friends over at cinematical:

Some very exciting news has just hit the net (though it’s been quietly talked about for a good while now): Fanboys will screen at San Diego Comic Con later this week, on Thursday, July 24, and will apparently hit theaters this September. Finally! First, for the Con news: Tickets for this special screening will be given away to the first 300 people in line at the Lucasfilm’s 7th Annual Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge, held on Thursday at 8:30pm in Ballroom 20. Fanboys director Kyle Newman will be on hand to introduce some footage during the awards ceremony before the full-length screening at 10:30pm. Right on!

But then came this quote from the film’s producer Kevin Spacey: “I could not be more excited that ‘Fanboys’ is being released this September and is the version of the film that the fans want. I am enormously grateful to Jedi Knight Harvey Weinstein for having allowed Trigger Street to restore “Fanboys” to its original story and am thrilled that it will first screen during Comic-Con.”

Once we have release date information – we will be certain to shoot it your way. With luck, I will be able to hunt this news down at the Con. Fanboys has been percolating for some time and we started to wonder if it would ever get a release at all. Then wind came out that drastic changes were being made to the geek-tastic story line that left everyone calling WTF!

Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein have made magic happen and will forever be seen as heroes to the geek community. Now after all the hooplah and fanfare we can finally see the film. If I am unable to get into the Con screening, we will be sure to review it as soon as we are able.

  1. This movie is awful. Not sure why people have any excitement in seeing it. I caught it 2 years ago and realized then why they had trouble releasing the movie. And the inside jokes about Harry Knowles even more annoying.

  2. Looks like they cut a deal. Weinstein wanted them to cut the heart out, and they said “If we call you a Jedi Knight in public, can we have our movie back??”

    The rest is history.
