You clearly don’t understand how I’m using the word. There is a mythology to the Transformers history. Millions of years old. It is what it is.

Treasure Planet may not be included due to whether or not the 140 million also includes the marketing and print budgets, if so then the actual production budget would be 100 mil vs 92 mil worldwide boxoffice, but if not, then Treasure Planet definately should be on the list.

Actually Apatow didn’t write it. He came up with the concept for it with Sandler and thus got an additional credit, but the script itself was written by Adam Sandler and Robert Smigel

Second, The Fallen will not be in the movie. The title is not referencing the transformer. You’re being lead astray of facts.

Jumper 2…I won’t jump, just skip. I loathed the first film…it’s one thing to check your brain at the door, it’s another to drain the life out of you for an hour or two…

Disaster Movie…I’ll give it this The title may be very accurate I’m not sure why the fist poster spoofs the Simpsons film (a show which itself pokes fun at/spoofs pop culture from time to time) – but then, this spoof is also a bit late. It sort of reminds me of “Not Another Teen Movie’ which went on to mock the 80’s teen films nearly twenty years later.

Now, aside from ‘Cloverfield’, which I’m sure is the main spoof, the only film I can think of being spoofed is ‘Day After Tomorrow’… because most of the diaster pix are at least ten years old...Twister, Dante’s Peak, Deep Impact, Volcano etc. Not to mention that some of them have already been spoofed.

What makes me want to see a movie on the big screen as opposed to DVD? Lots of different factors, starting with what I see in the trailer(s) without the studio spoiling away the twists and turns. It’s not as bad as the ‘ol Cannon days where the trailer just happens to show the bad guy’s plane/private helicopter burst into flames, but I’m not a huge fan of “scenes” online or spoilers in trailers. To me, that’s an act of desperation, that the studio doesn’t have a lot of faith in a picture.

‘No faith’ brings me to factor #2: If the film is not screened for critics, (print or net) regardless of what the critics may or may not say in a review, that’s a flag. I may overlook it if the film is directed by someone whose work I like or a character/theme of interest (say, Ghost Rider) but most of the time…no critics screenings means I’m most likely to skip the film and wait for DVD, if that.

Factor#3: If I can find the damn picture. Nothing pisses me off more that seeing a trailer or other promo material for a film, making a choice to see that film, and the studio jerks around the release date. The bottom line is…you can’t watch a film if you can’t find it and by the time the studio does release it theatrically?

* It comes with a whimper. Newer films are being promoted, why promote a film two years old that is perceived to be a film that nobody cares about anymore?

*A bouncing postponement might unfairly give the impression that it is a stinker. The irony is that some pix a studio releases on time are just that, and some of the underpromoted films are not half bad. It’s not always the case, but the way I call it is this: release the film or send it to DVD. If it is good enough for a theatrical run, pick a date and stick to that date and/or time frame.

Looking at you The Weinstein Company and MGM…Killshot! Where is it! I been waiting for this movie!

Factor #4.
The talent behind the film and in front of the camera. I may not be the biggest Scorcese fan, for example, but I’ll go to the theaters because it’s Scorcese, right? When James Cameron’s new film comes around, I’ll see that. I’ll always see a Michael Mann film in theaters.

I made it a recent point to see any film with Joaquin Pheonix in it. Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Val Kilmer, George Clooney…Cate Blanchett.

Factor#5:
Subject Matter.

I’m a popcorn film lover – I’ll go see The Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace, next years Transformers 2, all that. Most of us will. But I am also open to comedies and dramas…without being preached to and without being dumbed down.

DVDs

Of course a buy is based on something I seen in a theater at some point in my life, be it Streets Of Fire, Traffic, Pirates Of The Caribbean or We Own The Night. It might be even a DTV effort which I rented at some point and liked (Komodo, for example)

But it also comes with these factors:
1) Is there extras/a “special edition’. What is the difference between the double dip? One freaking extra? Bullshit! Count me out! (looking at you, Paramount and The Hunt For Red October)

2) How big of a fan am I? Do I want the two-disc Transformers DVD or the single disc? How about that Tin casing?

3) I refuse to buy any DVD that is sold with a another, unrelated movie on one disc. It is worse if, in the brilliant mindset of the facists who pull this crap, the re-issued “double feature” on one disc is n full frame when the previous stand alone was in a widescreen option and the special features from the previous issue of either film are GONE! I hunt around for one movie to finish my collection of, say, Charlie Sheen’s films. I have them all but one. All I can find is a B side to a film I already have and that one I have is the SE of Platoon and it is of better quality.

And you want me to trade up for this piece of shit??????
