Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton to star in Prince of Persia Movie

Despite all the hoopla over Orlando Bloom being cast in Prince of Persia seems to now be completely false. Looks like Jake Gyllenhaal will be riding the magic carpet!

Cinematical Breaks:

Jake Gyllenhaal has landed the lead role in The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for director Mike Newell, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer. Remember how we told you to expect both leads to be announced at the same time? Well, starring opposite Gyllenhaal will be … Gemma Arterton. Yes, that random up-and-comer who recently nabbed a role in the new James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace.

In the film, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young Prince who teams with an exotic princess named Tamina (Arterton) on a mission to stop “a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world,”

Gemma Arterton is a sweet addition to this cast and with a solid name like Gyllenhaal and Arterton gaining a lot of steam as the next Bond Girl.

Typically, video game movies rank on my “rent it when nothing else is available” list, but my interest in this just doubled.

  1. If anyone has a problem with the cast of the up coming movie PoP: SoT then go to gopatition.com because someone made a patition to get rid of this almost completely DREDFUL cast. Thank You

  2. I don’t know, I just never really was a big Gylenhaal fan. I guess I’m not too worried about the actors in the film (I think Alfred Molina is a great actor).

I’m more worried about how Disney’s going to ruin it.

  3. How do you figure that Gyllenhaal won’t fit the part?

I think the guy is perfect. He is fit, can do action and a great actor. A little bit of makeup and he looks Persian.

    What’s the problem?

  4. To be honest I hated the idea of Gyllenhaal being the prince in this movie, but looking at the picture of him they have posted here, I’m thinking in my head ‘Yeah, it might work’. I forgot that actors can lose weight faster then such normal folk.

The whole Disney thing really kicked me in the ass though. So much for the awesome blood scene in the coming sequels they will most likely make to squeeze more money out of the franchise.

I’m just sick of all these damn Hollywood actors taking the movie spotlight when they really obviously don’t fit the part. But they just keep pushing it. but at least one of the creates of the game is a co-writer for the movie.

  5. TM, I completely agree. I was rooting for John Abraham to land the role, and he -was- mentioned as a choice. But I guess his accent might’ve been too strong, or even the contravercy it bubbled between Hindu’s and Persians in choosing the actor based on religion/blood.

Ah well, I guess he’ll arrive in Hollywood in due time. ;) I can’t wait to see the mix of Bolly-Hollywood.

Johnny Depp – Shantaram. <3 Lol.

Anywho, I’m looking forwards to the movie! Whoot!

  6. I think gyllenhaal will be fine for this role, i would rather have him than Bloom by far. i like Bloom (sorta) but just not for this role.

    @ Hazmat

agreed, I would also like to see him as Spiderman

  7. Wasn’t there some sort of survey that had an actual Persian prince that was also an actor and athlete on its top spot? How on Earth did Jake Gyllenhaal get this rule instead (nothing against the guy… in fact, I’m a fan)?
