Boondock Saints 2 Announced

Boondock 1-1The director of Boondock Saints made a St. Patrick’s Day announcement on You Tube that there will be a sequel. The video has since been pulled but can be seen over at slashfilm where we get the following news:

Troy Duffy has a big announcement for St. Patrick’s Day: Boondock Saints 2 might be happening after all. According to Duffy, Sony Picture Studios has greenlit The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day, and the original cast (with the exception of Willem Dafoe) are excited to return. Duffy claims that the film will begin shooting Summer 2008.

My buddy Bill told me about this film, he raved about it for some time and then I finally rented it – and was glad I did. It was an enjoyable story about Irish assassins, and really set itself up well for a sequel. I was actually surprised when one did not come out within 2 years of the initial release. It became a big word of mouth hit on DVD and it seemed a shame to waste the momentum with non-action.

It now looks like a sequel is going ahead, although it is down right strange that the director would make the announcement on You Tube – only to have the video pulled? We will follow this news and see how it develops. With luck, I will be able to see the follow up before a moon base is constructed.

  1. why the f*ck are these idiots not showing this movie on a large scale. there are absolutley no F*ucking showings in my area. I’m p*ssed off cuz I can’t watch it. A$$holes I’m gonna have to f*cking find it online pirated just to see it. Sorry but I would have paid if the F*ucks would have put it out were I could have seen it in theaters. But oh well I will see it one way or another.

  2. iI found out on a new site that they started filming in September, some of it is being shot in Vancouver B.C. Canada, I don’t so much as “”worship”” this move as much as believe in it. the text in this film is just ingénues. Every thing is written so well. And most of it is true. Do not steal, do not rape, do not kill. Its all so true. I’m not much of a God believer, but this film gave me a lot different perspective bout the teachings. But it is sad not to see Defoe return. That was one of his best roles I’ve seen yet, lol. But hopefully Duffy toke a while to write this script very well, cause he set the bar really high from the first one.

  3. boondock saints one is my all time favorite movie, no matter how much i watch it i can not get tired of it i love it . i am glad they are coming out with a second one, i hope it is as good as the first

  4. I dont know how anyone could hate on the original let alone be mad that there is going to be a sequel. If you didnt like the orginal then why are you reading about the sequel? Yes its a guy flick but there is deeper meaning…. come on boys there is more to a good movie than guns and sex. Get your eyes off the guns and relize that this movie is about everything you wish you could do to the scum bags of the world.

With that said….cant wait for the sequel!!!

  5. Oh yeah to add to the above comment, I LOVE NORMAN REEDUS! The cast in the movie were all awesome! Too bad William won’t be back, without him it’s going to be a bit off but overall the second movie should be awesome anyway. Love the cast, director and the whole shi-bang! Excellent work!

  6. This movie is the best freakn’ movie EVER! I absolutly loved it! I still can’t get enough of this movie too. Its great that there is a sequel coming out. I am so excited!

  7. @Jake

That’s bullshit man. Boondock Saints had some problems but it was one hell of a good ride.

I seriously doubt you could make a better film! Props to the people who were involved with this movie. I would love to be an extra in Boondock Saints 2.

  8. He didn’t make it on Youtube. He made it on his official site, and someone just posted it on Youtube. Funny how I sent this to you guys days and days ago, with the correct link to the official video, yet you ignored it, and here you are, posting about it and talking about a link to a youtube video. Feels great to be ignored.

  9. I’m am very much excited about this news. I think the first was done brilliantly ( with a few holes here and there). The fact that the entire cast excluding Dafoe is coming back is sweet! Many of the critics who hated the film for just being a glorified bloodbath, shoot em up film well…yeah thats what is was and I like those kinds of films. I has a certain mystic to it that only this film can provide explination and perspective to and sometimes I think filmmakers lose sight of that. I do think to fill the void of Dafoe’s character in the original I make a loud suggestion that Dennis Leary takes up this role. Leary has been said by many and himself that he looks like Dafoe and with his Bostonian heritage I think he would bring so much to this franchise.

  10. Got bad reviews I think but was awesome. Glad the cast is returning, will be awesome. The comedy and action mix in this movie was great. Too bad no Dafoe tho, his character was hilarious.

  11. I enjoyed “Boondock Saints” one hell of a lot, but to this day I am not quite sure why. Make sure you do see “Saints” before “Overnight” though. “Overnight” was spectacular as a study in watching someone who happened to be in the right place at the right time take an opportunity and flush it down the turlet in a big brown swirl.

  12. I’ve never understood the cult following this movie has. There are many cult movies that I don’t like, but I still “get” why there is so much hype. This one I just don’t get.

  13. i dont know….after the cult status and he hype around the original i checked it out….really not that great, action scenes were cool…sorta…

but it was kinda corny…i dont know about this one

  14. Although I truly love Boondock Saints and would be first in line to see the sequel I wouldn’t put an ounce of faith in anything that the director has to say about……pretty much anything. For those of you who haven’t seen “Overnight” yet it really is a great doc telling of the rise and fall of Troy Duffy in Hollywood as he is making Boondock Saints. He pretty much comes across as one of the the most arrogant and conceited pricks that I’ve ever seen and during the course of the doc he not only slashes and burns his fledgling 15 second reputation in Hollywood but also manages to AGGRESSIVELY alienate his family and friends with his allusions of grandeur. Now, that said, the 2 movies were made a while back and maybe he’s chilled out since then and learned his lesson, but until this thing is officially greenlit by Sony I wouldn’t give this rumor an ounce of credence.

  15. I enjoyed this when I first saw it back in the day. Not great, but “cool.”

Then I went to college and my first year in the dorms I heard constantly from everyone, “DUDE, DUDE, DUDE… Have you seen Boondock Saints? Wait, WHAT MAN? You don’t think it’s the best movie ever!? What the fuck is wrong with you? BEST. MOVIE. EVER. Let’s finish watching it again after Dukes of Hazard is over. Johnny Knoxville is so funny.”

Then everyone started getting the tattoos. And they kept talking about it. Constantly. I think this might be the only movie in the history of the world that I’ve ever hated due to the overexposure and cult following.

  16. I’m not quite sure why, but this is my all time favorite movie, I have the prayer tattooed on my shoulder. For some reason this movie can keep my glued no matter how many times I’ve seen it that day, or that month. Now this business? I dunno how I feel about it, Willem Dafoe was a major part of why the movie was great, the comedic timing of this guy was absolutly surprising. I just don’t know how they’ll make this work.

  17. Dude, if anyone hasn’t seen it, they should check out “Overnight”, a documentary about the rise and fall of Troy Duffy, the “saints” director, at the end of the 1990s. The footage was shot and edited by members of Troy’s inner circle during the whirlwind of his tragic self-induced blacklisting. It’s an amazing flic–much better than Boondok Saints, in my opinion; and if you’re down with documentaries, it’s a must see.
