Rambo 5 – No

A few days ago some comments coming out of the Weinstein company got some buzz going about the possibility of a Rambo 5 movie. The first half of Rambo 4 was some of the worst filmmaking I’ve ever seen in my life… but the second half of the movie was balls to the wall non-stop goodness… so yeah, I’d be up for another one.

However, those rumors seem to have reached the ears of Sylvester Stallone who has confirmed that THERE WILL NOT BE A RAMBO 5. Period. The good folks over at ropeofsilicon give us this quote from the big man himself:

“This is the last Rambo just as Rocky Balboa is the last Rocky… I can’t go any further. It was a miracle that it even got done.”

So there you have it. No Rambo 5 for us.

As much as I agree that it’s time to let Rambo hang up the bazooka, I do like the idea of an older action hero. A man in his 60’s kicking ass like it’s going out of style. He’d be like Batman from “The Dark Knight Returns”… only he’s have massive guns instead of a utility belt. NOW WAIT A SECOND… THERE’S AN IDEA! (I’ll post the idea later).

  1. I am a huge fan of Rambo. I enjoyed watching First Blood as a young Marine in 1983 and have enjoyed every movie since; even though First Blood is the best one. I agree with one other commentor that I am wondering what has happened to John J. as he is reunited with his father. I know there has to be some great screen writer out there who has a script to entice Sly and bring back the heart-felt character of Rambo. I have ideas:)

  2. i belive and hope mr stallon, will reconsider
doing just one moor rambo film, because his 4 films
are part of a survival course that an indian tribe
is useing for extreame survial conditions, mr stallons, rambo films are required study materials
i also think the next movie should be based on a
current real life condition, like the pirate problem
in africas, coast lines, or the terrorist problem,
theres also a gang problem, near mexico,or the drug
shipment problems, from china and other asian lands
basically pick your problem,or combination of problems its hard to tell kids no, who love rambo
i tell them i cant make mr stallon, do one moor
movie.because thats his choice, i can write this
letter and hope he reads it,or some one tells him
about it, rambo gives people hope to let them know
some body is out there lending help to those who
would not get any help. many people would volunteer
there time to help mr stallon make one moor rambo
movie, we could volunteer our services and some
time to help mr stallom, with the cost of a rambo 5
movie he may change his mind for this one last
shot, if your a fan of rambo, be a true friend
and let mr stallon know you will back him up and stand by him like you would family members, if he see,s
that fans will help out with volunteer efforts.
he may reconsider,mr stallon put some hard work into
makeing rambo films, for you,if you want rambo 5
you need to show mr stallon that you are willing to put some hard, work into helping him reduce the
    costs, of makeing the film,
may the war spirits bless, sylvester stallon,
for being john rambo.the warrior of hope.

  5. What can I say. Rocky latest greatest fizzled and so did Rambo. I’d like to know just how pathethic the box office returnes were. Just what this trash deserves. Stallone’s day was over years ago. Nobody cares about this horrenous actor or anything he appears in. The guy just doesn’t know when to go away. The guy is so desparate for attention he shows up on some reality TV boxing show. Now that tells everyone the guy is a nobody these days.

  6. if they do another rambo it should be a prequel, see how he was trained, is time in the vietnam war, and have christian bale play john rambo, and still have stallone direct.

over the top, you know i want to be an actor one so i think i know what it’s like to try your best and i also learned that part from you.

  9. Man, Like many I have all 4 Rambo’s. Growing up they were a inspiration of a American hero. No matter how he felt about OR how his country felt about him. He was solid. When I first saw Rambo 4 trailer online I felt like kicking a tear. It really ment alot. To hear that its finally over is like a kick in the face. Rambo cant be over. Look at all the years that went by and the new movie rocked. At my work its all people talk about. New generations are watching him. That inspiration to never give up is back. It ended as it started and was by far the greatest story ever. Thanks for all the years of watching Rambo.

  11. There is..you see this guy is full of shit, you can see for yourself I so happen to have Sly’s personal site where he was infact changing the genre of Rambo is all for Rambo 5 there will not be a war movie he says. he’s already writing the Script..So you can Go to Sylvester stallone personal site and check the news listing if you don’t believe me ;)

Note: this is dated Feburary 1st while his personal qoute on the other site was dated later on March 15th thus makes him a party pooper no more no less, So Rambo 5 is still on no worries guys ;D

  12. I found this on another site. Which ‘quote’ are we to believe?

The other day I wrote an article about cukoo-crazy Lionsgate wanting to change the title of JOHN RAMBO to RAMBO TO HELL AND BACK. I thought it was silly, but I wasn’t completely appalled like some others. Anyway, over at Aint It Cool News, Harry – very happy to have Sylvester Stallone calling him – reports that the muscled-one himself was partially responsible for the title change – and may be responsible for changing it back to JOHN RAMBO.

Stallone said: “You know Lionsgate jumped the gun on this. I just was thinking that the title JOHN RAMBO was derivative of ROCKY BALBOA and might give people the idea that this is the last Rambo film, and I don’t necessarily feel that it will be. He’s not an athlete, there’s no reason he can’t continue onto another adventure. Like John Wayne with THE SEARCHERS.”

Harry apparently expressed his displeasure with calling it anything OTHER than JOHN RAMBO, and Stallone’s response is: “Alright, that’s the title. JOHN RAMBO.”

So more important than the title being changed back (for now), is the news that there’s a potential FIFTH Rambo picture in the works

  13. While I have always enjoyed the Rambo series, I agree with others,, it’s time to let go. There’s enough sequels flying around nowdays, to satisfy anyone. It’s another example of how dysfunctional our society is. Stallone should accept his films for what they were, and not keep craving the excitement that comes from doing another.
Has anyone seen Jump Out Boys? It is as rediculous as Sly continuing to portray our favorite action heroes,
If Sly wishes to keep the Rambo or Rocky franchises going, he should be satisfied as one of the writers and producer, and leave the action to younger actors.

  14. (Type your commnet here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)the new rambo film was awesome,we hope he he makes more.a more mature action star looks so good!best action flick have seen in ages, film is up there with first blood!sly you did it again!!!thanks for showing other so called action stars how its done..

  15. I think it’s time to hang up the guns too. I really like throughout the series how he can make anything with nothing, especially in First Blood, he doesn’t have anything but a knife and is able to make traps and so on.

  16. I’m happy to see any and all of Stallone’s jingoist xenophobic 80’s icons retreat into the sunset and the scrap heap of pop culture. Retire. Please.

What we need NOW is more movies like Crank and the Bourne flicks. Those are the kind of action film I can get behind. We don’t need to relive the worst excesses and cultural car wrecks of the 80’s.

  17. I went and saw it opening night. And I didnt find the first half the movie nearly as unbearable as some of you here. I thought it was solid enough. The action was “grip you by the balls, we’re going” awesome.

But yeah, it was a decent send off to an American icon. Now, if we can just Sly to do write and direct some of these up and comings, we’ll be set.

  18. I like Rambo. Aside from Julie Benz, who gave one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen..I thought it was a solid action movie. When it was over, I was shocked and how short it felt..maybe its because I was having so much fun watching it. I didn’t think, “Man, that was great..I wonder what happens next”. I think thats enough of Rambo for me.

John, they need to make an eventual movie about “The Dark Knight Returns.” Eventually..not anytime soon. A cartoon version would be pretty sweet. I think that would be the best way to go.

  19. Hey John, you’re always the one telling us that no one actor is the only person that can play that part. If you have the vision to imagine Triple H replacing Arnie as Conan then i’m sure you can invision another guy playing John Rambo.

Oh, and thanks for the show. I say it in the right corner before.
