It’s Official – Justice League On Hold

Jl-1Well we heard wind about this last week, and now we have confirmation. We the following exclusive scoop thanks to our friends at IESB:

Word came down today that the film is officially on hold. This will be until, at the very least, after the Writers strike has been resolved. Right now it’s looking like at least until June. But for now, WB’s Justice League live action movie is on hold! Late last week, we brought you the news that a decision would be made this week regarding the status of the Justice League production and that the crew was preparing for the worst. Well, it’s a good thing they prepared because the worst has come.

Our source is solid, he’s a crew member working directly on the production team down in Australia. He says the big meeting took place yesterday. They’ve decided on a one-week notice to all of the employees – this is a standard practice in Australian filmmaking as a courtesy when letting people go.

The consensus around here is good riddance! This whole mangled train-wreck was just a disappointment waiting to happen. From strange casting decisions to a romantic story line – every news item released regarding this film disgusted me. The disappointment has been evident with the international friends as well, many of you have made it clear that you were disappointed with the news releases, every step of the way. Everyone wants this film; they just want it to be done right. This is going to take a complete script overhaul and a new cast. This film being on indefinite hold is the news we have been hoping for, and now we wait to see if they return to the drawing board.

I do not care if I have to wait 5 years for this film to surface, I just want them to take their time and do it right. International friends what are your thoughts on the issue?

  1. So something positve did come out of the WGA strike then!

I didnt think brandon routh wasnt a good superman, i didnt think he looked old enough and he didnt have enough presense. I think in a few years tom welling would make an awesome superman he got intensity when its needed and hes a better actor alround. Still both not a match for old reed. God rest his great soul

  2. To say this is for the best is an understatement. I’m glad they are putting it on hold, perhaps the pause will bring some clarity to the decisions that have made the fans and many communities so angry.

  3. Every step of the way this movie seemed wrong to me, for it to be any good it would have to match Batman and Superman combined…and the only way i can see that happening is if bale and routh are in it, and if david goyer gets his mits on the script. Otherwise it will just seem weird to me.

  4. I’m with DarkKinger. I think giving people at least another Superman movie and then Superman vs. Batman.

Brandon Routh was very good as Superman. One of the best things that could have happened was giving him a son. I can hear the hisses now. But it would be really fun to see someone like Brainiac kill the brat. I read this book once and I think it was by Saul Stein: How To Grow A Novel. He said,”Put your character up a tree and throw rocks at him then get him down safely or not.” What size stone could have thrown at Supes than to kill his son. He is impervious to physical ones.

The JL movie would have been bust with younger actors.

  5. I called this back in September/October 2007 if you’ll remember! This particular JLA will NOT get made. Period.

There’s pretty much no support from WB at this point…what with the horrible script and cast, the insanely huge budget and feeling that its the wrong time to be making a “team-up” film with the BATMAN and SUPERMAN film series still around; especially with completely different actors.

Miller will leave the project in a month or two. The actors (supposedly) cast will move on to other films. And we’ll hear absolutely nothing about JLA for a-LONG-while.

Here’s what will end up happening…a JLA or WORLD’S FINEST-type film will be made with Routh and Bale a few years down the line (i.e. after THE MAN OF STEEL and/or further SUPES sequels and BATMAN III are done!)

Mark my words…that’s what will happen…

  6. In the immortal words of Kool & The Gang…

    Celebrate good times, come on,
    Come on and celebrate
    Celebrate good times, come on,
    And everything’s gonna be alright.

We’re gonna have a good time tonight,
    Let’s celebrate, it’s alright
