I agree, John. This premiered at Sundance and I saw it at one of the screenings. Very gritty. The opening chase scene and the Patrick trying to save that pregnant lady from the stray bullet were intense.

Sadly, I thought "Smokin' Aces" was straight up shit. And that's hard for me to say because I have a man-crush on Ryan Reynolds.

Well training day had DENZEL and MARKY MARK!
RAY LYOTA and certainly JASON ¨speed2¨PATRICK are not money makers on the box office.
Aniway this is such a good movie and CARNAHAN did showed a very good eye for the dirt and the crude i almost had to take a shower when i finish the movie, just to clean the dirty feeling of myself.
I remenber when Tom Cruise said he contracted Carnahan for the sequel of mission impossible, i got very excited with what the movie could turn, sadenly TOMMYBOY had problems with the him and kicked him out .

I cannot believe Training Day got so many recognitions but Narc basically received none. Maybe if this came out first, people will talk about it more. Ray Liotta performance was outstanding.

Campea, props- this post REALLY hit the nail on the head. It really is a truly solid cop movie/murder mystery. If nothing else, it has one of the most utterly jarring opening sequences that I have ever seen. And yes, Narc IS why I chose to see Smokin' Aces and when that movie ended, I couldn't help but wonder how Carnahan went from THIS to THAT, even though I sorta enjoyed some of Smokin' Aces's action element (though none of the fights could top Narc's opening set piece).

Great movie. Really depressing tho. The way it is shot and the story. Everything is dark and gloomy. Kinda reminds me of Training Day...cept this movie is far better IMO yet got no attention like that movie did. Lame.

Great movie. I was really disappointed with Smokin' Aces also.

Carnahan's first movie, <a href="http://imdb.com/title/tt0163984/" title="Blood Guts Bullets & Octane" rel="nofollow">, while not great, is worth a watch. And his contribution to the BMWfilms The Hire series (I kinda wish I hadn't sold that DVD) was pretty cool.

I hope he gets back on track with his next project(s).

i saw this when it first came out on DVD and thought it was so good. Ray Liota is usually bang on but it was jason Patric that surprised me in this....he was actually a pretty believable cop.

Definately worth a viewing
