Sydney Poitier Joins the Cast of NBC’s ‘Knight Rider’

Sydney-PoitierSydney Poitier (‘Death Proof’ and ‘Veronica Mars’ fame) has joined the cast of NBC’s TV movie, ‘Knight Rider’ based off the popular TV show from the eighties.

Comingsoon.net
gives us these details:

The Transformers-inspired sequel centers on Mike Tracer (Justin Bruening), the son of Michael Knight, the character played by David Hasselhoff in the original production. Poitier will play a feisty FBI agent who dislikes Mike.

Wow…I feel real sheepish. I thought this movie was supposed to hit the big screens and NOT be subjected to becoming a NBC TV movie of the week. Saying that, why the hell is Sydney Poitier attached to this? Considering she’s the daughter of one of the most highly talented and respected actors out there, (Sidney Poitier) and she starred in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’ this year, you would think she would have more to chose from than playing the generic “tough as nails” female cop in a TV movie. So what do you feel about this news? Do you think this TV movie is bound to suck? Will it be successful enough to be a pilot for a potential remake of the popular television show? More importantly, does anybody care to see ‘Knight Rider’ resurrected?

  1. This deserves a film – it was already on TV, why not take the next logical step?

I heard there were some legal issues with Knight Rider that was related to the television and film rights, but you’d think they would do everything possible to make a movie.

And why did the kid inherit his dad’s first name and not the last name? That’s lame. But kinda funny.

  2. I hope Knight Rider gets made into a big-screen film and not just a TV movie.

A good choice for Michael Knight would be Shia LeBouf or Jude Law.

I hope they also use the original KITT.

If Transformers worked on the big screen, I’m sure Knight Rider will also be given a good screen treatment. All it needs is the right script and less camp.

  3. Man, I loved DEATH PROOF and Jungle Julia was just an awesome piece of hottnes.
That girl has some great legs!
But nevertheless, KNIGHT RIDER without the Hoff is doomed, it’s as simple as that.

  4. I’m pretty sure this “TV movie” is going to be a pilot for a new series. Someone else is going to make an unrelated film, but NBC is planning to make a series. Poitier has done plenty of TV in the past. Some series on UPN that I never watched. First season of Veronica Mars. Not surprising at all that she would join another TV show.

  5. I didn’t like it when they did, “Knight Rider 2010” that tv movie sucked pretty hard. Knight Rider worked in the 80’s and i enjoyed it in the 80’s but I dont think the show would work now since it’d technically be about a guy and his smart-ass GPS system that likes to talk back. A resurrection of CHiP’s would work better than Knight Rider.

BTW, if the show is updated, would KITT now stand for Knight Industry Three Thousand? Being 2000 would be a little out of date.
