Germany Awards Tom Cruise With A Bambi

BambiIt looks like Tom Cruise and the nation of Germany have mended their relationship, and the Germans are looking to prove it with an award. We get the scoop from the gospel according to IMDB:

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise will be honored for his “willingness to take risks in his movies” at an awards ceremony in Germany. The Magnolia star will be awarded the courage prize for pursuing “brave projects” at the 59th annual Bambi Awards in Dusseldorf on Thursday night. The prize committee say Cruise has pursued brave projects that otherwise would not have been made, including his under-fire movie Valkyrie. Last month, Cruise was banned from shooting the movie – about a colonel who led an unsuccessful plot to assassinate Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler – in Bendlerblock in Berlin. The decision was later overturned.

This award is not a publicity stunt, his upcoming medal for drinking tap water, and his championship belt for breathing oxygen are equally legitimate. How is starring in a film about a German that wants to kill Hitler a brave project? Everyone hates Hitler, playing the role of a character that wants to kill him, is another day at the office. Playing a guy that thinks Hitler is innocent is brave, unwise, but brave. This seems like a crazy category

Jokes aside, the Bambi award does look awesome. Of all the awards out there, this is the one that I want most. The best chance I will have to get one sadly is through the ancient art of thievery. If any of our German friends are able to find me a replica, that will do as well. As crazy as I think it is that Tom Cruise is winning this award, I am thankful that he did. I am now aware of the Bambi awards and will try my best to follow them forever!

  1. Do you know who is the prolocutor star of Louis Vuitton Handbags Online now? It is the Sofia Coppola, she is well-know with the director of movies. Of course she like the LV very much ,especial the Louis Vuitton Wallet, but she never buy something from the Louis Vuitton outlet store, because she always get freely and show the newest louis vuitton items .

  2. @ Mozzerino:

Actually, I think this award does mean a lot to TC, seeing as how he and other Hollywood stars along with others in the “religion” have been trying to get $cientology recognized as a religion in Germany for some time. I’m pretty sure that is why TC made this movie in the first place.

  3. @ Seth:
    They haven’t announced that yet.
But Tom Wilkinson is part of the cast of VALKYRIE and he hasn’t popped up in any other part or was in that picture with all they other fellows (Kenneth Brannagh, Bill Nighy, Terrence Stamp, etc.).
So my money is on him and I think that would rock. He is a brilliant actor.

  4. As a Kraut, I may be able to shed some light on this:
First of all thanks Doug, I’m honored by your appreciation of our wonderful award statue. It is indeed a cute golden thing.
However, this award means shit. At least to someone like Cruise anyway. Award shows in Europe are pretty much desperate for some A-Listers to appear at their events and they pay insane amounts of money for it. The need big celebrities to get ratings for those shows. And if people like Cruise happen to be persuaded to come, they get an award. That’s all their is to it. If the VIP doesn’t fit into an already established category, they just make one up, as in this case. It’s all a big charade.
A few years ago, Sam Jackson attended the Bambi awards, but actually he just happened to be in town because he pick up his new car. Stuttgart, where the awards are held, is also the home of Mercedes.
He was just lured into the whole thing.
Also, the Bambi award is held by the Burda family and is one there most prestigious assets. The Burda family is the owner of one of the biggest publishing companies in Europe. You don’t wanna piss of those guys. They have the power to kill careers if they want to. So if you wanna be featured in one of their countless publications, you better show up.
