All you see it what financial dispute are NOT going to tell you their true positions. Especially a studio chief. It’s to whip up fear in the opposition. (If you can’t play with the big boys just go home). You have to assume that what’s released is BS, or at best way out of date. The press is the last to know, and never really tried to get the ‘truth’ in the film business.

John =- please don’t take this personally or too seriously. IT’s too easy to beleive that you really know what’s going on when you can’t possibly.

P.S. There were jokes in the Hollywood trades that I was running Paramount when I was 9. Years old. Not typo.

Miramax owned it but it was too big for them to complete on their own. I’m talking way before new Line bought in and Jackson came along – way before the first film. This was never in print.

And of course there are talks going on. So both conclusions are right as far as I know. I knew about the New Zealand Project as it was called two years before it was even announced that New Line was becoming involved. A friend of mine was secretly prepping it.
