The true hard men of Hollywood (Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen, Lee Marvin, William Holden, John Cassavetes, Richard Burton, etc etc) are either all dead, or ancient – only Clint remains, and who’s going to send a 70-something on a suicide mission? What limp-wristed squids are we going to get on this “mission” ? Let’s face it, there’s not enough real men left in Hollywood to even come up with a “Hokey Half-Dozen”, never mind the full compliment. Besides, the few possible big names charge such ludicrous fees that we could never have the kind of ensemble cast that were possible in the ’60s (A Bridge too Far, the Longest Day, Great Escape).

I watched the original a few weeks ago after learning of this proposed remake – and it still had me in tears before the end. All-time action classic, up there with the Wild Bunch, Magnificent Seven, Great Escape and Where Eagles dare.

And from what I’ve read of the proposed script, it’s a disgusting insult to the real heroes of Delta Force (e.g, Randy Shughart & Gary Gordon who gave their lives for their colleagues on the “Black Hawk Down” mission) to suggest that there would ever be a situation anywhere that would “scare ” Delta Force into requiring a bunch of prisoners to embark on a suicide mission.

Offensive, is the nicest word I can think of for this project. I hope it wrecks the careers of all involved!

Inglorious Bastards is virtually the same thing as The Dirty Dozen so I guess as where Tarantino is doing an Homage to the film this movie will be a full blown remake.

Then again this remake might actually be more original than the Tarantino Homage movie.

It’s completely unnecessary , but I do hope this means a return to the kind of ‘boy’s own war movies’ we haven’t seen in ages (Guns of Navarone, The Great Escape, Bridge on the River Kwai and so on…). I’m a little bit tired of the whole down ‘n’ dirty, realistic approach seen in Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down etc. – I want to see the return of the monocle-wearing Nazi general who spoke perfect English with choice German phrases dropped in (NEIN!).

Isn’t Tarantino’s still-in-development ‘Inglorious Bastards’ pretty much the same story as The Dirty Dozen too though? Was does it mean for that project?

Back when I was in college, like 10 years ago, my buddies and I would sit around, get stoned and talk about a Dirty Dozen remake. It was one of our favorite discussions. The fantasy casting of the film got outrageous. and after a few passes of the bong, just saying a name was enough to elicit huge amounts of laughter. The conversation would always kick-off with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, so they were cast almost by default.

Steven Seagal.

PLEASE!!! No rappers, wrestlers from the WWE, or anyone from UFC. I say bring back the action stars that most of us grew up with. And maybe have Clint Eastwood in the Lee Marvin role.
