The play (Rent) was fantastic. As soon as I heard that Chris Columbus was directing I knew it was going to be crap (in my opinion).

Columbus is too linear a director.

Everything about Hairspray (including the feedback that John Waters had), Has me excited.

I disagree with you on this John, I think Hairspray is going to do great at the box office.

First it has two ready-made audiences. Fans of the original film and Fans of the Broadway Show.

Next, this isn’t going to be a straight interpertation of the Broadway Show to film ala Rent (Play Great, Movie Sucked). They are making a film here.

I also think word of mouth is going to propell this film. Also this is Travolta’s first musical since Grease, which is also going to get butts into the seats.

I know I am going to be there the first day it comes out.

Kristina, when I was watching Rent, because it takes in New York City I was expecting a New Yorker to just interupted the song and say “SHUT THE FUCK UP WITH THE SINGING I’M TRYING TO SLEEP!!”

I love Moulin Rouge and Phantom. This thing….not really interested, but it’s a musical, so I’ll go. I didn’t see Moulin Rouge in theaters and I still regret it to this day.

Hey John, I saw the Phantom of Opera movie first and then saw the broadway show.

I think the reason why Grease and Moulin Rouge worked as a movie is because their was a story there then just songs I guess.
