But I liked the film. The fight scenes were nice and I loved the Randy Edelman score.

See? I can say something positive about the director.

Would he be okay with the Mummy franchise? Well, he has helmed a fantasy type film before (Dragonheart) …and he would need to rebound from that stench from last year (Stealth). Just as long as he goes in a different direction than Sommers, who seemed to do four things in Van Helsing and the Mummy films which I despised:

*Over-using special effects in areas which defy the story logic and/or set rules within story context.

*Repeated FX gags ad nauseum

*Characters who are self aware/hard to take seriously, thus not taking a threat seriously.

* Wasting acting talent/not getting the best performances out of the actors/not using actors fully etc.

Alfie, if you want to know who I look at the way you look at Michael Bay… well, here he is. The difference is, I can watch a Rob Cohen movie and still have fun. He makes mindless drivel, but I still enjoy it for the 2 hours I’m in the theatre.

So, yeah…
Cohen would be OK for the Mummy franchise.

Spare me the whole holding out for more money bit because for one she should, Brendan did not make those films successful alone and she deserves to be paid just as well as he is. And second, The Mummy Returns was not very good to begin with and you can’t blame Rachel Weisz for being hesitant in coming back for a 3rd film. With what i read about the new movie, i will not blame her at all for not coming back.

There is a time when you have to know when to walk away and i think this is the time to do it.

Mummy films have all been enjoyable to watch, but the thought of a third dosent bring me any feeling.

Maybe its because I’m a little older, and they are kids films tbh.

Wont see in to the cinema ( hes says quitely …. i did see Scorpian king there >.> ), but I’d watch it on Cable.

Normally I like to go into my opinions and explain myself so I’m not a horn-blowing ranter – however, Rob deserves it on every turn. He flawlessly releases glossed over, brain-dead films that defy logic by somehow getting made. And for some insane reason, people attend these films made by the same guy who launched the Fast and the Furious, XXX, Stealth, brought the stupid dog back to life in Daylight and dumb-humped my brain into a coma with “The Skulls” – thinking that somehow, this time, it will be entertaining. UGH.
Just kill me.

Personally I think Rob’s the right guy to do it, he has similar sensibilities to Sommers, though the Mummy felt more credible than Fast and the Furious.
Revamping the franchise is a good idea. Sommers (one of my favorite movie-makers) made a great franchise. Some folks complain about Sommer’s script writing and call the Mummy movies “stupid” but I have to wonder, what the hell their problem with the story was? What elements did they want to see which were missing? None. How could it have been made “smarter?” They can’t say. Instead they bitch about “how it was handled.” A hard “R” film would have been a straight horror movie and clearly the studios wanted broader appeal than that -hence a different approach. Sommers struck a perfect balance of horror and humor -not easy to do and his critics wouldn’t have been able to do it at all! I loved both the Mummy films. It’s a proven money-maker that shouldn’t be held hostage to Rachael Weisz’s constant kvetching, which she’s been doing since 2002. Obviously she’s holding out for more money and will hold her breath til she gets it. Time to restart the series with a new lead and avoid all that. Hopefully a strong enough script will be turned in that Rob won’t mess up…too badly.
