I have read the script of Avatar and its a wonderful world created by Cameron and I am positive that he will not disappoint. The maestro has been absent for 10 years and all these years he has perfected the art of utilizing the camera system that has been developed with his brother Mike and will be used for this film.

Can't wait to be in summer 2009!

I for one commend James for taking 10 steps back .. I know if alot of us had won the lottery. We would have spent alot of time living our dream .. and his was shipwrecks without question. Or at least it would seem to be one of his strongest passions.. To be able to go and live that passion must have been awesome for him ..
I hope his strongest work ( sci-fi ) is still infront of him. As the movie ALIENS is one of my all-time fav's. this should be one of the most exciting project to come along in a while when it's done.. Meaning avatar.. so i hope he really knocks it out of the park..

This film COULD be a masterpiece (Just like Terminator 2), or it could be like Titanic, a supposed masterpiece that does sublime in the boxoffice because of the exemplary special effects but in actual fact, isn't at all a good film. Bogstandard performances from Billy Zane and Leo DiCapprio gave the film nothing in popularity. The only performance that really lifted it up was Kathy Bates. The script itself wasn't at all brilliant. I reckon Avator will be a probable smash hit, but it may well be like Titanic!

It'll probably be shit

i completely agree with jay in his post above.

and jaysmack, thandie newton as storm.....no. true halle berry didn't fit the part put we needed a strong black woman like angela basset to grace us as storm. now that would be amazing. thandie newton and berry look too frail and weak to be storm.

i'll have to agree with you on the casting choices and i personally think jason statham would've been the perfect wolverine since i saw transporter 1. think about it: short, angry, strong, athletic, and statham knows basic martial arts, i think. all that needed to be done is the hair.

oh and good to see cameron step back into big budget film i'll keep this on my radar. should be better than M. Night's avatar...lol

peace....

And I have to disagree with you, John

X-Men 1 and 2 were not the best 2 superhero movies ever made.

In my opinion,
Batman Begins was better.
The first Superman was better.
Spiderman 2 was better.
Heck, I even think that both Blade and Blade 2 were better.

X-Men 1 and 2 were good films. They were really good... but the best ever... nah.

Opinions do vary though, and each is as valid as the next.
But as far as "sci-fi/action" goes, Singer cant direct or concieve an action scene to save his life. X-Men 1 and 2 both have horrible action scenes. The Lady Deathstrike scene was horrendous and it should have been an epic fight scene for the ages. And the Sabretooth scene isnt any better. God damn, they were fighting on top of the Statue of Liberty. That should have looked spectacular but the shots were ordinary and the camera movement was mundane and pedestrian. It completely lacked any spectacle or exuberance, and if there ever was a scene that deserved spectacle it would have been seeing Wolverine and Sabretooth finally meeting on-screen in live action and going apeshit on each other on top of the Statue of Liberty. Christ, how can you fuck that up?
There is, of course, the exception. The Nightcrawler scene. But I still say Singer had nothing to do with the actual visual planning and execution of that scene. My question is, where was that guy when it came time to plan the Lady Deathstrike scene?

Sci-fi action... not really,
but quality character drama... yeah, he's great at that.
And yes, I also think that Singer never intended to make Superman Returns an action movie, but like JaySmack already said, he should have.
