Gambit In X-Men 4

Gambit X-Men 4There are hundreds and hundreds of characters in the X-Men universe and only a precious limited amount of screen time. THerefore, not everyone can get in. Many people have complained about their various favorite characters not making the cut, but no character had a bigger outcry than Gambit… and for good reason. He’s a rich character with a huge following.

The problem has always been, as we’ve said here before, is that on the screen, Gambit was too much like the way they portrayed Wolverine. It didn’t make sense for them to both be in there considering they were both the rough, outsider, do things my own way, kind of characters. BUT…

Now that Wolverine is getting a spin off movie of his own… and isn’t likely to appear in X_men 4, the ground is ripe for Gambit to finally appear. And according to X-Men producer Lauren Schuler Donner, sounds like he will! More than that, looks like they’ve already got their eye on an actor for the role. The good folks at Movie Hole give us this:

Talking to IESB, “X-Men” series producer Lauren Schuler Donner mentioned that model cum actor Holloway – who plays Sawyer on the hit TV series – is someone that she’d love to see in the role of the comic-book mutant. (Holloway actually near signed up to play the part last year). “Remember in “Lost”? The guy, what’s his name, there was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy…Sawyer, Sawyer”, she said.

As for the studio’s plans for ‘Gambit’, the producer remains tight-lipped, except to say that he will pop up in one of the forthcoming “X-Men” adventures. (She’s not saying whether that will be “X-Men 4”, the Young “Magneto” movie or “Wolverine”). “The reason we didn’t use Gambit [in “X-Men” 1-3] was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he’s got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others”, said Schuler-Donner. “That’s why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, [but] it wouldn’t be The Gambit Movie”.

I don’t watch Lost, so I really have no idea if this dude is right for the role, or if he has any talent, so I’ll let you guys chime in on this one.

Adding Gambit to the X-Men movies would be a great idea on several levels:

1) It will make the fans happy

2) It will fill the role being left behind by Wolverine

3) He’s an action oriented character which plays to the X-Franchise strengths

4) Gambit has a rich background. With most of the lose ends tied off in X-3, some new story fooder is needed.

So there you have it kiddies, looks like Gambit will finally arrive on the X-scene. What do you think? Would this be good news? Bad news? What are your thoughts?

  1. I love gambit! he and wolverine should stay together, with rouge, storm, beast, arch angel, cyclops, pX, jubalee, jean. That is the way the comic book was with a few guests iceman, and like one other. you guys are messing up the movie. THERE SHOULD BE MAIN FOCUS ON THE MARRIAGE OF ROUGE AND GAMBIT!. and they should finish there story together and happily ever after!

  2. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so) hey man i think the third movie messid it all up my two fav mutants is gambit and cyclops and then they kill cyclops off and never show gambit in all three movies its always about wolverine nothing against wolverine why cant yall just stick with the comic or the cartoon well im glad wolverine aint in it

  3. I absolutely love gambit and can’t wait for the character to be given the justice that he deserves on screen.

I hope that he is a leading character in x-men 4.

I’m dying to see him, Josh Holloway is great to play him (as long as he can get the accent down)

    Yay I’m so excited!

  4. Okay, so there finally gonna put Gambit in a film. It should be interesting to see if they can pull it off.

as for villians there is only one villian that I want to see. Sinister.

  5. Ok many shows suffer after losing main characters. War of the World’s lost main character and show quickly tanked, but writing of the show was changed so other reasons it failed. Bonanza lost Adam fairly early on, but only lasted one more season after the loss of Hoss, they changed writers and directors though so other reasons it failed. Some showed survived without main character, the Walton’s had a new John boy, though don’t know anyone who perfered second john boy. Bewitched had a new Darin the first left due to health problems. Buffy the tv series had a different Buffy than the movie. Only Radar remained of Characters from the movie Mash, Hawkeye, Trapper, Colonel Blake, etc. were all played by different actors on the tv show. New Trapper left the show, replaced by B.J. Hunicut, Blake left replaced by Potter, Burns left replaced by winchester, Radar left and Klinger became the company clerk. Roseanne had another actress play Daughter, as did Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, They also replaced actor of Jaq Slicker, first Jaq I only remember being on one episode.

  6. Xmen three had the danger room which was like Star Trek’s hollo deck, though way a guy who control’s minds needs a hollodeck is beyond me. They could fight simulated menaces all in the mind to be ready. though how they would distinguish real from fantasy after being in a fantasy world might be a real problem. They battled a robot resembling a Sentinel in the danger room, and after the success of the transformers I think they might have the Sentinels in the next movie.

  7. Lost may have Star War references in it, but Lost is obviously based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World which was written way before King Kong, Lost in Space, Star Wars, Land of the Lost, Jurassic Park as well as other shows and movies that copy it.

  8. oh, my god gambit is coming and i love josh holloway to play the role

    its cute

    its awesome

    its totally cool

    can’t wait for this movie

  9. ha, atlast after waiting for such a long time Gambit or remy lebeau is coming i hope that there is going to be a love trianglr between gambit-rogue-iceman

  10. I think that Josh Holloway is the perfect gambit for xmen..He is wonderful in the show lost and he is able to fill in gambit’s shoes..He has the perfect accent and the perfect looks…Gambit should defenitly be in the next xmen movie cos he has such a strong fan base just as well as wolverine or cyclops…if anything, they should change rogue in that movie..I really dont think Anna Paquin is deserving of that role…Rogue is such a beautiful woman in the comics and able to match up with gambit’s good looks as well.. Anna on the other hand shouldve been like kitty pryde or sumthing…

  11. Of course Josh Holloway is perfect for being Gambit. Remy and Sawyer are kind of the same, they are both mysterious, keep to them selves, flirt with lots of women. I think he would be great as Gambit in X-Men 4, when I was watching Lost I thought Sawyer was a bit like Gambit.
And as for Wolverine not being in X-Men 4 that is total crap. Hugh Jackman has said he would love to continue doing X-Men movies as long as they keep making them. Wolverine wouldn’t not be in the movie even though they are making a Wolverine movie, that movie is going to be about his life before the X-Men with Weapon X and Stryker and how that all happened. It has nothing to do with the first X-Men movies. So it will have nothing to do with Wolverine and the X-Men after X3.
Wolverine and Gambit are very popular characters in the X-Men Universe and they work off each other, fight and annoy each other. That is what is needed in the next film.

  12. I think it would be great to have gambit and wolverine. this will be the last stand if taking out wolverine does not work. im a big gambit fan but, i think you need to add characters not takeaway thats what is going to hurt the movie, because now what do you do about wolverine fans, just wait until his movie comes out that sucks.

  13. Well i wasn’t a big fan of the LOST series after season 1 (2 and 3 are absolute rubbish), but the guy who plays sawyer wouldn’t be such a bad choice. He has the right accent and look but i think Gambit is more of a rough nut like wolverine. Holloway might be able to fit into character coz when he gets angry on LOST he kind of fits the Gambit persona, but he seems to ‘witty’ to play Gambit. I think Guy Pearce or someone less ‘muscly’ would be better. Holloway seems to big for the role.

  14. First thing to remember is that Remy is southern. I believe the actor in question grew up mostly in Georgia, so that’s not too bad. I don’t really think the producers would have much to worry about should they decide to do X-Men 4. We all know comic fans are in it for the long-haul. That’s why we read comics! Just don’t rape the storylines, and nobody will get hurt.

  15. OMG YESSS FINALLY GAMBIT!! i’ve been waiting for this since part 1 >.OMG YESSS FINALLY GAMBIT!! i’ve been waiting for this since part 1 >.< he's my fav. character and i can't belive they said his power is not exciting!!! he can blow stuff up!!! Wolverine has claws (no offense i like him :D) how is that more exciting than blowing stuff up?? i think holloway is a perfect fit for Gambit also :)

  16. I Say If Wolverine Can Stay Keep Him And Add Gambit Also,Not Like There Ways Are Gonna Matter Just Make Them Fight All The Time No Big Deal On That.Matter Of Fact Have Them Fight In The Very beginning
Then Have Gambit To Join The Xmen Team. Not Like Wolverine And Cyclops Got Along For Awhile Because It Would Be Nothin Without Wolverine In The Movie So Please Have Them Both.

  17. As quoted from Lauren Schuler Donner above, one of the reasons Gambit was not used in the last 3 x movies was because his powers was not that interesting. Umm. disagreed. his powers are very unique. If the X-men produces can remove half of Rogue’s power (superstrengh, flying, granted she got them from Ms. Marvel but she did have them when she joined the x-men) then I’m sure they can find a spot for a mutant who can make things blow up from touching them. I don’t know the actor they are considering but I hope he can pull off the charming hypnotic look Gambit is best known for. btw please don’t try to make him fall for Rogue, though she is my most favorite Marvel Character, but, that character has been destroyed by hollywood enough.

  18. About time they’re considering a Gambit in the movies. As far as Holloway, thats about as close as people are going to get to a Gambit. 8 or 9 years ago, I would have casted Jean Claude Van-Damme, as he was at one time a perfect fit. That not being the case anymore, Holloway suits me fine. I went to a few sites about X4 and they said they wouldnt cast Wolverine and Gambit together because they were too similar, like they could have one and not the other. I personally think thats a load of crap. They went with Nightcrawler in X2 because he looked different and had unique powers, so gambit got scrapped there. I also read that X4 could possibly be focused on the younger generation of students, with Cyclops dead and the Professor missing(or so it seems.) I also feel Logan and Remy could have been in the same movie together. one is a melee fighter, one has a distance ability. one is tempermental, and one is charming. Logan and Remy have also demonsrated compatibility many times in the comics (Wolverine and Gambit: Deadly Victims, they were both on the Blue Strike Force, they both can rely on fighting prowess or stealth). All in all, they had better not ruin Gambit in X4 by making him cheesy or unbelievable.

  19. YES!!! i have waited sooooooo long for remy aka gambit to make an apperance!!! i hope this lost guy is good.. being a fellow ragin cajun i dont want nobody buthcering our accent!!!

  20. To all loyal MARVEL COMICS readers,

First id like to say HELL YEA to REMY LEBEAU finally getting in a damn X-MEN movie!! The first one was great!! Just no GAMBIT(and Rouge was a little girl…and the Wovie/Sabertooth fight…yawn). The second movie was better than the first..very well done..i love Bryan Singer as director for the flix(i guess i can forgive him for leavin to make Superman Returns..that was a great storyline driven flick..cant wait for THE MAN OF STEEL). Sill….no REMY LEBEAU! Wait..i think his name was on the screen of data Mystique was stealling(along with cannonball…psylocke…franklin richards). Then..i get teased with the PHOENIX EFFECT firebird at the end of X2. OMG!!!! I geeked out so much…i couldnt wait for X3!! X-MEN 3….(sigh). Good movie..just a let down to true X-fans everywhere. If Bryan Singer came back to direct it…it would have been awesome!!! The gripes for it are too much to list. I tried to enjoy it for what it was..and it was cool. Finally saw “ICEMAN”..you know…the ice suit Bobby Drake. Colossus…Shadowcat…cool. Juggernaut…funny…but a let down. THat guy was supposed to be huge!! And yes..his helmet did look like a penis head in the movie. Multiple Man? hmmm ..so-so. ( If u watch the movie with commentary on you’ll hear when Gambit was supposed to show up…during the jail break scene…it wasnt supposed to be multiple man…i was sooooo bummed when i heard that.) And the biggest gripe about X3 other than offing Cyclops (my other fav character) and no Gambit……….The PHOENIX!!! Damn…read the PHOENIX/DARK PHOENIX SAGA!! Its on trade paperback at any comic shop near you. Anyone who reads this will or should be pissed at how it was handled in the movie.

But i will still see any Marvel flick put out…no matter how bad it might be….i know of the guy from LOST and i think he’d make a cool REMY. Just hope the storyline doesnt blow. He can play Gambit so good a blind man would see again but if the screenplay blows then its all for nuttin. And for his powers sucking? What are these people smoking?!? Look up Gambit online and go to the wiklopidia or what ever its called. THe man is powerfull….he just didnt want to be able to access it all so SINISTER separated it from him. I know this is long but that goes to show the average fan or non fan that if done right or close to it X-Men could be a francise movie line for as long as there are movies.

p.s. LOST is boring to me..i dont knock anyone who watches it but i cant get into it..it kinda drags along. Again i dont knock it cause i love pro wrestling (wwe,tna,ecw-old&new) and i know there are people who hate that but wont let someone explain why they like it. Same with comics but thats always gona be up for debate….im just glad people are starting to see what fanboys have been seeing all along …comics arent just for geeks and nerds (which are cool now i guess :) but if done right and for the masses..can be for everyone.

Please look up Gambit online and see for yourself…and while your at it look up X-men and be prepared to sit for a long time :) Enjoy!!
    Thank you for your time.

  21. Gambit is my favourite character but I wouldn’t like to see him in the films due to the fact I dislike the films. They’ve screwed so many storylines up, killing quality characters like Scott. I don’t think they’d be able to portray Remy properly.

  22. movie needs to be bit more… Rogue for god sake is nothing like the cartoon ???? even the girl that could walk through walls had more action than her, the phoenix killed off in one movie without much action from her? Where did the action go?

  23. for those that think gambit powers are weak, please please fucking wake up. those that only know gambit from the cartoon don’t know the real gambit. his powers were subdued in the cartoon series. his real abilities unchecked are remarkable and like havok’s and often uncontrollable.sinister had to rig gambit to make his powers more controllable. gambit at one point had few to no peers in total mutant ability.

  24. jubilee did appear in a xmen movie. i don’t know if everyone else remember this POS made for TV movie called ‘Generation X’ that appeared in like 96. it had skin, mondo, banshee, the white queen, and i think husk. it was a horrible movie but i remember waiting for it for weeks anxiously then b/c the world back then was so starved of anything xmen.

  25. Well i think Gambit has a nice power but i think that with both xmen Gmbit and wolverine the movie will be beter. because wolverine have come in the tree movies and wolverine geting out the movie will not be that cool cause wolverine does what ever he wants. In the cartoon Gambit and wolverine are there and i think in the movie both of them should come too. Jobulee will be a nice chatacter in Xmen 4 too cause Gambit always helps Jobulee and there best friends i think. I guess they should put WOLVERINE in XMEN 4

  26. I think that Josh Holloway would be perfect for Gambit in the movie. Actually, I still don’t understand why they didn’t bring him out sooner. Though he’s been in the woodworks, I think that they could have at least mentioned him in X-3. Kinda like they did Hank McCoy in X-2. Anyways…yeah. He’d be perfect.

As two his powers not being exciting…if people read the old comics, his powers have evolved so much. He nearly exploded everything and had to where protective covering (much like Rogue’s) to stop from doing so. On top of that, due to his time travel and meeting Essex again, he has a minimal ability to heal (much like Logan’s only a lot slower) due to his kinetic energy. And FINALLY there is the Empathy. It’s not much of a commonly used power, but me, personally…I find it quite exciting. I fervrantly hope that they actually bring this power out in the movie. It’d be so cool.

  27. I have been waiting for Gambit in the movies for so long. But Holloway is nowhere near as perfect for the role as Jean Claude Van Damme!! This would be an ultimate comeback for him. He has the look, the accent, the martial arts background (remember Gambit has some moves), and is all around perfect. His agent should be all over this!

  28. The world needs superheroes…

For such an excellent creation of Stan Lee are spider-man and x-men has great significance among morality and ultimate issues all over the world.

I hope X-men will be on the films at its fourth sequel, I hope Gambit would be there. I know not everyone likes this character, but he has been a trademark of the x-men because he has been a member since the first day I watched x-men back then when I was a child. Gambit plays a vital role in making the fans much happier because of his charm and interesting powers. I want the character to have justice, so I hope you will include him in the movie.

    This is what I suggest.

  29. i really like the idea of having gambit in future xmen movies.
i dont know if the actor for lost would be best for the part cus i in most series rogue and ambit belong together so it might be best to get an actor who is a little younger, bobby and kitty are better together anyway

  30. having gambit finally come in will be great. but not having logan will blow. now that cyclops is gone it would be better to have both gambit and wolverine. as for the man that plays gambit, i have some connections and i have heard that gambit will be played by paul walker, known from fast and the furious & 2 fast 2 furious

  31. having gambit finally come in will be great. but not having logan will suck. now that cyclops is gone it would be better to have both gambit and wolverine. as for the man that plays gambit, i have some connections and i have heard that gambit will be played by paul walker, known from fast and the furious & 2 fast 2 furious

  32. As far as Gambit is concerned, think Interview with a Vampire. Gambit is cajun and who played the long haired firece eyed cajun? Brad Pitt. Who in fact has a bad ass side in Fight Club. Personally I am NOT a Brad Pitt fan, but hes got the character type for Gambit down. Who knows, he might be too big to play Gambit. Just a thought.

  33. the dude looks good but yeah i agree with what u said wolverine and gambit r most alike but i dont agree with the power thing i mean is not the most eye cathing power but come on anything in the guys hand is a weapon he can blow stuff up by touching it so i hope we can see him in the next movie lot of love peace.

  34. I think its a great idea as I was a huge fan of the X-men Tv Series.
First one showing that Gambit was one of the MAIN characters and jubilee introduced. what really agitated me was the fact gambit wasnt played in the first, but jubilee was. or Gambit and Rouge’s Relationship… Gambit was by far the best.

  35. alright settel down first off my mind x-men movie. what to say abut that.finalllllly gambits role is metioned. now how to start an x-men 4 with a high profile with such arrtributes. well what do we now about gambit hes a badass lovable/charming/can use bullettime on him because of his agillity can use martial arts experts. have to keep plasma red eyes. since rouge is taken what about all freak this cant even think of another chick for gambit in the x-men world.maybe kitty pryde.as far as casting try this josh harttnet for a younger gambit or jean claude vann damme for an older look. the storie for this particular movie theres just to many. but ill give you my best shot.now pay attention new hero (gambit) new villian (mr.sinister) gambit long and forgotten father.

  36. hey is it confirm that hugh jackman(wolverine) is no more in the further x-men movies because he is getting a movie of his own life story……i don’t mind the addition of the new character, Gambit but it should affect the other characters especially wolverine because basically he is main mutant in the before 3 movies.

  37. Is there a way for fans to contribute ideas to the producers of x-men 4? like may suggest a certain inclusion of a character or what potential they might bring to the screen? I’d like blink to make an appearance, and she would be more kick-a– than nightcrawler with her powers….

  38. I LOVE Gambit. He’s my favorite X-men. I do like the whole Harry Connick Jr. Idea. That way they’ll have a REAL New Orleans accent not the cheesy (but loveable) one they use in the cartoon. WE DON’T TALK LIKE THAT! But’s it’s okay cher. lol.

  39. The only thing I have to say about X-Man is…Indeed if they do make an X-Man 4 they would have to include Gambit…I dont understand why they didnt have in the first ones(a lot of people wonder)…I know I did, and I can say X-3 was good, but the name, and the killin for most of the characters i didnt like(but was very good)…Bring Gambit into the picture thats all im sayin…Peace

  40. I HEARD PATRICK STEWART DID AND INTERVIEW IN THE UK AND STATED THAT THERE IS NO PLANS FOR AN X MEN 4 AND IF THEY DECIDE TO EVENTUOLY DO ONE HE ISNT LIKELY TO BE PART OF IT. (HOW OCULD THEY KILL PROF X IF THEY PLAN ON MAKING MOR X MEN FILMS

I HEARD HUGH JACKMAN WONT LIKELY BE INVOLVED IN AN X4 BECUASE HE WANTS MORE MONEY.

WITH WHAT I JUST WROTE IM NOT TRYING TO SOUND NEGATIVE IM JUST SAYING WHAT IVE HEARD.

AS FOR GAMBIT WHEN I WAS 11 AND I HEARD THEY WERE MAKING AN X MEN MOVIE I WATCHED IT TO SEE IF GAMBIT WAS INVOLVED HE WASNT!!!
WHEN I HEARD ABOUT X MEN 2 I WAS EXCITED BECAUSE I FIGURED THIS WAS IT GAMBIT WOULD BE IN THIS ONE. HE WASNT!! WHEN X3 CAME AROUND I INSTANTLY KNEW THERE WOULD BE NO GAMBIT AND AS I THOUGHT THERE WAS NO GAMBIT. HE IS ONE OF THE MAIN X MEN MAN COME ON.

I SEE THESE X EMEN MOVIES AND I THINK THE ARE DECENT FILMS BUT
THE THING I DONT LIKE IS HOW THEY ALL REVOLVE AROUND WOLVERINE
DONT GET ME WRONG HE IS COOL ONE OF THE BEST BUT ITS AN X MEN MOVIE AND THOUGH ALL OF THEM IT WAS LIKE WOLVERINE AND EVERONE ELS WAS SUPPORTING CHARACTORS.
I MEAN SCOTT SUMMERS WAS KINDA A WUSS THROUGH ALL THE MOVIES AND GIVEN A SHIT PART. READ THE COMICS HE IS THE LEADER OF THE X MEN AND HE WAS A BAD ASS DUDE ON THE CARTOON IN THE 90’S. HE WAS THE LEADER AND WOLVERINE WAS THE BADASS REBEL AND FOR THE MOVIES THYE SEEM TO HAVE PUSHED SCOTT BACK TO MAKE WOLVERINE THE LEADER. LAME!!!!!

I THINK THEY SHOULD JUST GIVE GAMBIT HIS OWN MOVIE.
MAKE IT A GAMBUT AND BISHOP MOVIE BASSED ON THE COMICS SERIES.
OR EVEN BETTER GAMBIT AND THE X-TERNALS NOW THAT WOULD BE THE MOVIE TO SEE

    -GAMBIT5005

  41. i really h0pe there’ll be x-men 4,with holloway as gambit in it together with other xmen characters…by the way, please include mr.sinister and his all his horsemen…

  42. New memeber to the x-men crew sounds fantastic and Gambit is truely a good new fresh memeber, He will bring new stories, new scenery and perhaps conflict. Choosing Halloway seems like next to perfect. However losing Wolverine would have viewers upset and annoyed, he has to be one of the main characters in all 3 movies and juse making him disspear in the 4th doesnt seem like the right thing to do. But if he is cut from the movie, i have no doubt that everyone will still be excited to see a xmen 4 with or without Wolverine, however it might jst attract more viewers if he was to stay.

  43. I’m so happy finally Gambit is going to be in x-men 4! I love him sooo much and Josh Holloway would be perfect for the role like a badass hott GUY! Gosh i’m excited and yes wolverine shouls still be in the movie too! The producers will find a way to make this work great! (hopefully). Gambit is my favorite X-Men Character hes justa mystery and charming!

  44. This is the best news i have read about something to do with marvel movies. Gambit should have appeared at least as a cameo in one of the three xmen movies. He is the ultimate loner and untrusting character. You never know if he is acting for a commong good or just because he gains something out of it.

Anyone really know when will begun xmen 4 casting and producction?

  45. This is kinda a confusing Issue because, Yes a lot of the fans and I would love to see a Gambit in the X-men movie saga but would we really wana see him to the point were Wolverine is Cut?

I agree with (Franco) 100%, Wolverine is very well connected to the public as well as the series itself.Believe it or not Gambit happens to be my favorite character in X-men but I would never have him replace wolverines position. Wow (lol) when u think about it, its all kinda one big Gamble. It may attract more viewers and become a Box office hit or it can lose a large portion of fans and completely Bomb. Glad im not the one makin desicions behind all of this but I can’t wait to see how they attend to adress this issue….

  46. Ok, so gambit is getting in the movie, finally,, let’s all party, but wolverine getting off set? come on? with out him, the movie wouldn’t be as exited, believe it or not wolveriene is the most connected with the public, because his super powers are not (or at least don’ look) as super as the others, he is the human element in the film with gambit beeing the leader the movie would be a surreal, wolverine getting out would be the greatest lost on cinema history. It’s like those popular shows, its been shown that when the main or one of the main character is replaced the show loses audience.

  47. 48. Gambit finally!!! however lost blows. every week the same horse #@$#
we’ll reveal this we’ll reveal that, find out whats lurking in the woods…then nothing…tripe.

  49. I LOVE the X-men movies… and I love Gambit.

I think Josh Hollowway is an excellent choice for the role of Gambit. He can do the badboy thing very well, he has great expression and could stop you dead in your tracks wih just that look in his eyes, but he can also be very gentle and caring with Kate on Lost.

Lost is actually Josh’s first real acting job. He was just about ready to call it quits and go home to Georgia when he got the call. He was born in California… but he considers himself a southern boy, he grew up in Georgia, so he has that accent… GREAT casting!!

  50. Sawyer has the look and I’m sure the actor could pull off the attitude but can he do a French accent and speak some French well enough to convince us he is Remy Lebeau???

  51. Someone above said that Lost is the most over rated series…..I completely agree….after the season 1, I am honestly Lost and it seems the story writers are a bit LOST too as they keep dragging the mysteries…..a good strategy in any mystery movie/series is little discoveries that allow the audience to stay hooked….but for the last two seasons and especially the third one, nothing exciting really happened. Well Josh and that Canadian chick made out so maybe that was the discovery…..

don’t know about Gambit, but I love X-Men movies and by your description I think Josh will be great for the role….

  52. He was in the Ultimate X-Men comics as a brief storyline in issues #13 and #14 where Prof. X offers him his ‘card’ to join the X-Men (he declines). I think he comes back later (issue 50??) but I stopped reading it at around issue 30.

Gambit defined kool for me as a kid.
Wolverine was the over-rated one IMO, kool but over-rated.

  53. First of all, I have to say that I love Josh Holloway on “Lost”. He is terrific as Sawyer: on one hand he’s sarcastic and funny, but on the other hand he can be deadly serious and convey a lot of great emotion in his eyes in an instant. I didn’t know he was an ex-model. No wonder I’d never heard of him until “Lost”.

As for him playing Gambit, I can see him doing that, though I don’t know if he can do a French accent. I just know from “Lost” that he has a thick Southern drawl.

And what’s the deal with Gambit anyway? Why is he so damn popular? I’ve read some of the Ultimate X-Men books and I don’t even recall him being in it.

  54. I love this idea. I like the character of Gambit. I’m not sure about the actor since I’m also not a regular Lost viewer but everyone else seems to be faily happy with the idea of him in the role so I’m going to take that as a good sign.

  55. Richard,

Watch the extras disc from season 1. It talks all about how the creators of Lost got together based on their mutual love of Star Wars.

And if you haven’t seen the Star Wars references in the show, you’re either not paying attention or are joking. Sawyer calls several characters by names of Star Wars characters and without giving any spoilers characters refer to SW in one way or another all the time.

  56. …Still waiting for how we “know” that Jackson won’t play Wolverine again after the self-titled movie. Has he said this? I agree that he should have a lesser role, but come on, they’re not going to let him get away from this franchise which uses him as its posterboy…

  57. He is a good actor, IMO. He has this badass attitude that I think would fit the role of Gambit perfectly. He has the looks for gambit too…fits perfectly IMO. And hey John…how come you don’t watch LOST man?!?! Have you Lost your mind?! Great show, I truly recommend it.

  58. It’s a selling point, I’ll give it that.

However, I strongly disagree that “loose ends” were tied up in “X-Men: The Last Stand”. In addition, if you are not going to have at *least* Storm, who will be left to teach Xavier’s school? Will Magneto regain his powers? Is the Professor “really” dead, having his essence transferred over to a possible relative? Will Nightcrawler be back? We never see Cyclops actually “die” either.

[note: there is the possibility of the school for the gifted splitting off at this point, where one school on the west coast and the other on the east, like “Gold Strike Team” “Blue Strike Team”or maybe “Alpha Flight” “X-Force” what have you, etc]

  59. Lost is a great show, was at the start, is now. Yes it takes its sweet time to reveal anything, but that’s Lost, and considering the quality of the writing, acting and directing, it gets away with it. It is better than BSG, I love BSG, but it has about ten times as many stupid retard plot holes and gay story lines than Lost, where as Losts biggest failings are that it occasionally moves too slow and focus’s too much on character.

  60. Agreed. I never watched Lost, but my interest faded after hearing about thrid season. I don’t mind mystery, suspense, or questions, but give us some damn conclusion to them.

  61. John,
I know you don’t have much time to spare these days mate, but go and rent Season 1 of Lost. Your missing out bro! It’ll definately be worth it.

PS. Don’t really know much about X-men, so I don’t even know who Gambit is (sorry if I offend you fanboys)

  62. The only thing I took away from this post was that John doesn’t watch LOST!

    …blink blink…

I know its “TV” and not movies, but lost is so good on so many levels it cant be ignored. Excellent acting, excellent writing and character development, the damn thing is also the prettiest looking cinematography on television today. The story is pissing me off but whatever. Watch the show John, you know how sometimes you come across a person who never watched Seinfeld and you just shake your head and wonder….do you want to be that guy John?

    Nord

  63. Lost is the most over-rated show in the history of television. I was hooked after the first 2 or 3 shows… but after season 1 it just got muddled… never answering any questions, never leaving you with any sense of satisfaction. The guy is GREAT in it.. but take a pass on the show John. BSG is much much better.

  64. First of all, love Lost and love the idea that Sawyer would be playing Gambit. I think it’s very good casting, and I think Holloway CAN play other characters based on his casting sessions for Lost. He showed pretty good range there.

But I have to question the earlier comment that Lost wouldn’t exist without Star Wars? Where does that come from? And where are these “Star Wars” influences you see on Lost? I don’t see that at all.

Now I have read that Abrams and Lindeloff are huge Watchmen fans, and that they are heavily influenced by that. And that I see in the show quite a bit. But Star Wars? Not at all.

Having said that, I agree that you should definitely rent Season 1 of Lost and get going on that. By far the most original storytelling on television in the past 5 years.

  65. You don’t watch Lost? That is sick and twisted. Go rent season 1 disc one RIGHT now and I guarantee you’ll be hooked. It IS better than your favorite show BG.

Sawyer is my second fav character on that show and would makea great X-man. I have no idea who Gmabit is (I’m not a comic book guy), but if he’sa tough guy, smart-ass, bad-ass, I promise Holloway is the man for the job.

By the way, Lost is written by HUGE Star Wars geeks (JJ Abrams specifically) and has lots of SW references throughout the show. In fact, without SW, it’s doubtful this series would’ve ever been made.

  66. My friend and I commented prior to X3 that Halloway would be PERFECT for Gambit. I don’t if the script will be better than X3 but if Gambit was to be in it and Halloway was playing him I would love to see that!

And how dare she say gambits powers aren’t exciting! He can energize any object and make it frakking EXPLODE! I don’t know about her but that a pretty impressive power.

  67. If you’re gonna watch Lost John, please make sure for your own sanity to watch it from the start. Don’t do what I did and come in halfway through the second series….It nearly ruined it for me.

  68. John,

go get/rent the first season of Lost on DVD. After the first and second episodes, if you’re not hooked…well, I just don’t know what to say to you then…

    cheers

  69. I LOOOOOOOVE Holloway in Lost. Maybe cos of the bad boy thing happening around him, but anyway.

Gambit was a bad boy. Holloway, I think have proven that he can be the cool bad boy. Gambit was less refined than Wolverine, I mean his arrogance and all. Wolverine sulks and glower and brood, while Gambit’s more cheeky, mischievous.

    Like the whole idea.

  70. john m8,

    watch lost

it is seriously so good, nothing has gripped me like this before, please allow yourself to get caught up in the hype. One of my best decisions ever, trust me on this one

    Brian

  71. “Now that Wolverine is getting a spin off movie of his own… and isn’t likely to appear in X_men 4”

    Where did this come from?

Come on, even if his role isn’t as front-and-center as it was in X-Men 3–there’s no way that far and away the most popular X-Man “isn’t likely” to appear in X-Men 4.

Do I really think that Hugh Jackson will absolutely WANT to come back and play Wolverine for a fifth time? Not necessarily, but I absolutely do think that the higher-ups will insist that he’s in X-Men 4 at least a little bit–so as to be able to market the movie with him front and center.

  72. I don’t know, as far as I’ve seen Holloway has been good as Sawyer, but I haven’t seen him do any other characters at all. Does he have any range? It’s possible, but it seems like a gamble.

  73. I really don´t know much about Gambit but Josh Holloway is an amazing actor and I love what he´s done with his character in “Lost”! In “Lost” he has the best lines ever written for a TV Series, sharp and sarcastic, witty and bold…Either way he´s ready for stardom…he´s a great actor, with a great physique and ready to kick ass, like he sometimes does in “Lost”…
