No doubt it will be a very difficult adaptation.
I have my reservations about the project, but a lot of what Zach Snyder has said in interviews has me feeling quite optimistic about it.

I’m not excited. Watchmen’s a great book, and it was written so that it would be impossible to film. I doubt anybody finished that book and went ‘Wow! This should be a movie!’

I don’t care if the movie attracts an audience or not, as a fan of the comic I don’t want them to make it.

Not because they’ll do it wrong, or because they’ll change things, or any of those reasons.

Because it just doesn’t need to happen. I think Watchmen is perfect and well done as a graphic novel. It’s everything it needs to be. Making it into a movie is like taking a famous oil painting like Starry Night and saying “I dunno, let’s see what it looks like as a cheap watercolor.”

It won’t come out good, it won’t benefit anybody (except maybe monetarily) so why do it?

I think out of all things in that story, the ending is one of the key pieces.

Like in Equilibrium, you wait for the big showdown … here it comes … wait for it … wait I blinked. what happened? It’s over?

That is one of the scenes that sold the story to me.

The ending of “The Watchmen” is what makes it so intense. I could see that there are several things they COULD monkey around with such as, oh, A blue dude walking around with his weiner flapping all the time, but not that.
Please God not that.

I can’t see them going with the real ending of the series. Not in this day and age. It will either be changed completely or morph into a shot at Republicans.

I liked the way you ended that article with a bang, John. Just dropping that big reveal at the finish there. That was very exciting, like an Alias episode or something.

I don’t know about this Watchmen, but OH MY GOD MY MOTHER IS ALIVE!

I have to tell you, this is the one movie that I hope gets made (besides The Dark Knight Returns so the world can watch Batman kick Superman’s ass), and the one movie I hope they never make. I enjoyed the story so much, and Dave Gibbons style in the book added to the atmosphere. I feel so torn about seeing this come to fruition. i really don’t know how to react.

So far, I dig the direction this Zack Snyder is working in, and I have enjoyed “Sucker Free City” so I’ll maintain “Benefit Of The Doubt” status.

I am pleased, however, to hear that Zack Snyder is not planning on updating the era.
